Model: IS

Released: Jul 2009

Lexus’ IS sedan will be joined by a “hard-top convertible” bodystyle derivative, and will surface about nine months after the on sale timing of the range-wide IS facelift in 2009, which initially will only avaliable in 2.5-litre guise.

Make: Audi

Model: A6

Released: Jul 2009

Audi will launch a pair of sub-7.0-litre per 100km ‘green’ models from May. With a $74,500 125kW/350Nm 2.0 TDI four-cylinder, and $84,500 140kW/400Nm 2.7-litre V6 TDI common-rail units. Eschewing AWD, both have Audi’s Multitronic CVT continuously variable transmission which sends drive to the front wheels.

Make: Mazda

Model: Mazda3

Released: Jul 2009

A redesigned version of the five-door Mazda3 MPS hatch should appear locally in late 2009. Employing a revised version of the current model's front-drive chassis with a lightly retuned version of the previous 190kW/380Nm 2.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Expect a sub-$40,000 price.

Make: Mercedes-Benz

Model: E-class

Released: Jul 2009

One of the most eagerly-awaited unveilings at Detroit was the fifth generation Mercedes-Benz E-class. The W212 is highlighted by its split headlights, Audi-style running lights and duck-tail rear end. A range of twin-turbo four-cylinder diesel and petrol direct-injection units will be available.

Model: E-class

Released: Jul 2009

The all-new Mercedes-Benz E-class coupe will replace the current CLK as the entry-level Mercedes-Benz coupe. It is the second quad-headlight Mercedes model and will be positioned in price above the E-class sedan. The B-pillarless E-class Coupe is claimed to have a record 0.24Cd aerodynamic co-efficient.

Make: Suzuki

Model: Alto

Released: Jul 2009

Suzuki’s Alto light car aims to be the cheapest new car available in Australia – unless the Chinese get there first – with pricing of $11,000. The five-door hatch is powered by a 50kW, 993cc three-cylinder petrol engine, driving the front wheels through a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic.

Make: BMW

Model: 3 Series

Released: Jul 2009

BMW Australia has confirmed the six-cylinder turbo-diesel version of its facelifted 3 Series sedan for mid 2009. Powered by a high-output 180kW/520Nm turbocharged inline diesel six. Available only in six-speed automatic guise. The mid-sized 330d sedan consumes just 6.8L/100km.

Make: Peugeot

Model: 308 - CC

Released: Jul 2009

Peugeot peeled the wraps off its 308 CC at the 2008 Australian International Motor Show. Due on sale here next July, the 308 CC is the latest of Peugeot’s coupe-cabriolet evolution, which comprises a number of innovative features like a warm-air heating system built into the front seats.

Make: Alfa Romeo

Model: MiTo

Released: Jul 2009

Alfa Romeo is working on a sub-147 small car aimed at the BMW-built Mini Cooper S. known as MiTo, it is based on Fiat’s Punto platform. Due in 2009, MiTo will have a unique design and is expected to include a 170kW-plus 1.8-litre direct-injection turbo engine, plus Alfa’s Q4 four-wheel drive system.

Make: Toyota

Model: Prius

Released: Jul 2009

All future Toyota hybrids will bear the Prius nameplate, via three new hybrid Toyotas known internally as Prius A, B, and C. Sizewise, the next-generation Prius (B) will mimic Toyota's existing line-up, while Prius A is marked to be smaller than the current model, closer to Yaris size. Expected them in 2009.

Model: California

Released: Jul 2009

An entry-level super-coupe from Ferrari made its official public debut at the Paris show. Ferrari’s new 2+2 is based on the folding steel-roofed M139 Spyder Pininfarina concept broke new ground for Ferrari. The California will be powered by an evolution of the F430's 4.3-litre V8.

Make: Great Wall

Model: SA220

Released: Jul 2009

Australia's first Chinese vehicle brand, Great Wall Motors (likely to be known in Australia as GWM), will launch Australia’s most affordable dual-cab utility, based on Great Wall’s Sailor. The highly-specified two-wheel drive four-door pick-up, powered by a 2.3-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, will be priced under $20,000.
