After a few false starts, the electrified Qashqai e-Power Ti is now confirmed for arrival this month. Using Nissan’s petrol-electric hybrid powertrain, like the X-Trail e-Power, the Qashqai features a three-cylinder petrol-electric arrangement outputting 140kW/330Nm. Claimed combined range is listed at 1058km.

Released: Jan 2024

Another possibility this month, the Qashqai e-Power uses Nissan’s clever petrol-electric hybrid powertrain with a three-cylinder ICE engine functioning solely as a generator. Total outputs are 140kW/330Nm to achieve a claimed 1058km range. It is available only in high spec Ti grade.

Released: Dec 2023

All 100 examples were sold within an hour of being made available to order. However, the hi-po, nine-speed auto-only Z-car is “dream worthy” with special equipment, body and track enhancements, and more power from its twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 rated at 313kW and 531Nm.

Nissan has swapped the Dualis name for the global Qashqai moniker for its second-gen compact crossover and with it comes a raft of improvements including new small-capacity turbocharged engines as well as completely redesigned cabin. Longer, wider and lower than the model it replaces, the Qashqai comes off the same platform as its larger X-Trail sibling.

Released: Aug 2014

The reborn Pulsar is selling well for Nissan in Australia and the car-maker has confirmed it will add a sedan version of its SSS performance hatch later in the year. It is expected to be powered by the same 140kW/240Nm 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine matched with either a six-speed manual or a CVT as the hatch, but there is no word yet on pricing

Nissan’s seven-seat Pathfinder SUV range will be boosted by the arrival of the petrol-electric hybrid powertrain which combines a battery-powered electric motor to a supercharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine. Nissan is hoping the hybrid variant will make up for the lack of diesel powertrain and it will bring fuel consumption down to 7.5 litres per 100km.

The next-gen Nissan X-Trail was finally revealed at the 2013 Frankfurt motor show and features a cleaner design than the current model. The smoother lines replace the sharp edges, but Nissan insists it will be just as capable off road as the outgoing model.

Nissan will re-enter the mid-size segment with the launch of the Altima in the second half of 2013. Already a strong seller in the US, the Altima will come with a choice of a 2.5-litre four-cylinder or 3.5-litre V6 engine. It will also hit the track as the newest entrant in V8 Supercar racing, powered by a Nissan V8, but don’t expect this version to be available in showrooms.

The fourth-generation Pathfinder, which reverts to a car-like monocoque platform instead of the previous Navara body-on-frame architecture. The more svelte seven-seat 4x4 wagon – unveiled in concept form at the 2012 Detroit show – will be imported into Australia from Nissan’s US plant in Tennessee. A smaller V6 petrol engine and CVT transmission promise to increase efficiency.

The redesigned Nissan Patrol off-roader launched in the Middle East in February 2010 but won't be launched locally until early 2013. Based on a full ladder chassis with all-coil suspension, the Patrol will have significantly revised V8 petrol engines and the possibility of a common-rail turbo-diesel down the track if Nissan can make the numbers add up.

Released: Feb 2013

Nissan’s almighty GT-R will get an upgrade in early 2013 with an improved 0-100km/h figure of 2.7 seconds - 0.1 seconds faster than the previous model. Handling and ride have been improved for the MY2013 GT-R and a top-spec ‘Premium Edition’ has been added that includes a hand-stitched red leather interior option for a $4800 premium over the standard model.

Nissan will bring its iconic Pulsar nameplate back to Australia in early 2013, with a hatch variant to follow the sedan into showrooms shortly after. The Pulsar’s design is reminiscent of the larger Altima sedan and Nissan hopes the reborn Pulsar will reignite sales after the poor performance of the generally unloved Tiida.

Nissan's small global small sedan is based on the company's global 'V' platform which underpins the latest Micra, and was revealed in production form at the 2011 Guangzhou motor show in China. It stretches the Micra's platform to the size of the current Tiida and will be sold in Australia alongside the Micra.

NISSAN is leading the race to bring a mass-produced zero-emissions electric vehicle to Australian new-car showrooms. The Japanese company announced it will have a plug-in EV electric family car on sale here in 2012. It will be a five-seater with an electric range of more than 160km.

Nissan is expected to launch its redesigned 370Z convertible in early 2010. Powered by a 247kW/366Nm 3.7-litre DOHC V6, via an improved six-speed manual or new seven-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission. The 370Z convertible will ride on a shorter wheelbase and be wrapped in evolutionary styling.

Nissan's redesigned 350Z coupe is earmarked for a local introduction mid-2009, powered by a 245kW 3.7-litre V6 via Nissan’s new seven-speed automatic transmission or standard-issue six-speed manual gearbox. The 370Z will be wrapped in evolutionary styling, riding on a shorter wheelbase.

Nissan previewed Australia’s next-generation Maxima at the 2008 Beijing motor shpw. Called the Teana in China, it differs in terms of styling from the US market model but shares the same front-wheel drive platform. The Maxima is likely to be powered by a revised 3.5-litre VQ35DE petrol V6.

Nissan's new-generation GT-R (no "Skyline" this time) Porsche-pursuer will be revealed at the 2007 Tokyo motor show. Expect a 380kW twin-turbo V6, mated to a close-ratio seven-speed sequential gearbox and all-wheel drive - tech that could push price past $150,000 when it lands in Oz by mid 2009.

Nissan Australia confirmed that the Murano II is back on track for local release. With much of the exterior similar to the existing model, although with every body and interior panel new. Power is by Nissan’s 198kW 3.5-litre V6 engine, mated to a Continuously Variable Transmission known as Xtronic CVT.

Model: X-Trail - Diesel

Released: Jul 2008

Nissan will offer a diesel-powered X-Trail in late July. Developed with Renault. The 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine will be available in two specifications: an entry-level 110kW/320Nm engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, and a more powerful 127kW/360Nm iteration matched to a six-speed manual.

Nissan 2007 Dualis The X-Trail-based Dualis (which runs a smaller 102kW/198Nm 2.0-litre engine) will kick off at $28,990 for the ST and climb to $33,990 for the Ti from December. A CVT auto on both will add $2000, while Dualis will offer a $2000 ST option pack with ESC, side and curtain airbags and 16-inch alloy.

Nissan used the Sydney show to announce pin-sharp pricing for its new-to-Oz Micra model, due on sale here in December from under $15,000 - cheap enough to make its light-sized rivals cringe with fear. The five-door hatch will come powered by a 72kW/137Nm 1.4-litre engine - but not the bigger 1.6.

Released: May 2007

An upgraded 350Z hits Australia around mid-2007. It gains an 80 per cent-new 230kW VQ35HR 3.5-litre V6 engine. Visually, Nissan has not tampered too much with the 350Z’s exterior. The aluminium bonnet gains a “power bulge” and there are clear-lens LED tail-lights.

Revealed at Detroit 04 and similar to the vehicle Nissan Oz hopes will go on sale here around mid-2005, the redesigned Pathfinder will grow to include seven seats, independent suspension all round, a choice of a 4.0-litre petrol or 2.5-litre diesel power and a new AWD system. Priced from around $40,000.

Nissan Australia is developing a business case for its mid-sized luxury SUV, the Murano. Already sold in the US, Murano will be positioned upstream from the new Pathfinder - also due on sale in 2004 - with a pricetag between $50,000 and $60,000. Expect plenty of equipment, CVT trans and 180kW 3.5 V6.
