Make: Nissan

Model: GT-R

Released: Feb 2009

Nissan's new-generation GT-R (no "Skyline" this time) Porsche-pursuer will be revealed at the 2007 Tokyo motor show. Expect a 380kW twin-turbo V6, mated to a close-ratio seven-speed sequential gearbox and all-wheel drive - tech that could push price past $150,000 when it lands in Oz by mid 2009.

Make: Audi

Model: A6 - Sedan

Released: Feb 2009

Audi’s performance king and Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG bruiser - RS6 sedan, packs the same ballistic 426kW/650Nm twin-turbocharged direct-injection V10 and quattro all-wheel drive system as the heavier RS6 wagon, but sprints to 100km/h in 4.5 seconds, making it Audi’s quickest model.

Make: Lexus

Model: RX - 350

Released: Feb 2009

The next RX, to be derived off the current Camry platform, will be much larger and wider than today’s model. Speculation suggests that a long-wheelbase seven-seater version, beginning with the RX350L, is also on the cards. Another hybrid RX will also appear, employing a V6/electric motor combo.

Make: Volvo

Model: XC60

Released: Feb 2009

Volvo revealed the first images of its mould-breaking new XC60 at the 2008 Geneva motor show, based on Land Rover's new Freelander platform and featuring a similar AWD system. Engine choices should comprise an inline five-cylinder petrol and D5 diesel, as well as a 3.2-litre straight six.

Make: Volkswagen

Model: Passat - CC

Released: Feb 2009

The new Passat CC debuts a new exterior design theme for Volkswagen. While longer and wider than the standard Passat, the coupe-like profile sees overall height reduce 50mm. Power will come from three petrol and two diesel engines. Expect a late third-quarter launch.

Make: BMW

Model: X3

Released: Feb 2009

An upgraded and expanded 2009 X3 model range will be introduced from March. Available with four engines and two spec levels – Lifestyle Edition and Exclusive - X3 changes include a new leather-clad steering wheel, different wheel design, pearlescent interior knobs and a graphite-finish kidney grille.

Make: Honda

Model: City

Released: Feb 2009

Honda Australia will add a new compact sedan to slot in below the Civic, based on the all-new Jazz. It will compete against sedan versions of the Toyota Yaris and Holden Barina. The City sits on the Jazz platform, with boot volume of 506 litres. Power is by the 1.5-litre Jazz engine.

Make: Volkswagen

Model: Golf

Released: Feb 2009

Volkswagen’s new Golf VI carries much of the current, 2003-vintage Golf V underpinnings. Upgraded powertrains include supercharged and/or turbocharged petrol units and TDI turbo-diesels, now common-rail units with balancer shafts. Transmissions will include a newly developed seven-speed DSG.

Make: BMW

Model: 7 Series

Released: Feb 2009

The all-new F01/F02 generation 7-Series is due to be unveiled at the Paris motor show in October 2008, with an Australian launch expected in March 2009. Engine specifications will initially include twin-turbo petrol six (735i) and eight-cylinder (750i) power.
