Honda’s hot Civic Type R will return to Australia in late 2017 following the release of the tenth-generation Civic in 2016. It will go head-to-head with the likes of the Ford Focus RS, Volkswagen Golf R, Renault Megane RS275 and Peugeot 308 GTi 270.

Honda will welcome some minor updates for its Odyssey people-mover, with a tweaked front fascia and privacy glass for the rear windows. Isofix child seat anchorage points will also be added for the second row seats.

Released: Sep 2016

Honda will return to the supercar arena with a hybrid-powered NSX supercar that will serve as spiritual successor to the 1990s original that was developed with the help of F1 ace Ayrton Senna. On the concept unveiled at the 2012 Detroit show a 230kW 3.5-litre V6 combined with a 30kW electric motor to drive the rear wheels through Honda’s first seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

After 14 years, the sub-compact HR-V SUV will return to the Australian market. This time based on the Jazz light car, all four variants will be powered by a 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine matched with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Honda’s all-important third-generation Jazz light car should give the Japanese brand a boost in 2014, with a heavily improved hybrid powertrain and Honda’s first dual-clutch transmission, on petrol-electric versions. Honda has high hopes for the British-built diesel version of its CR-V when it arrives in late 2013. The Japanese carmaker expects a jump in sales of the popular compact SUV with more people looking at diesel powertrains in the SUV market. Expect a starting price around $40,000.

Honda’s CR-Z hybrid sports coupe will get subtle styling changes and a boost in power to both the petrol and electric engines as a part of a MY 2013 upgrade. The combined power output of the hybrid system will be 101kW, up 41kW on the previous model. New colours and interior updates will also feature when the car arrives in local showrooms.

Honda's UK-sourced Civic hatch will have the honour of being the car-maker's first diesel model in Australia when it arrives in April. The 88kW/300Nm manual-only oil-burner will be priced from $26,990 plus on-road costs.

The first all-new Honda CR-V since 2006 will feature a bolder front end that takes on a more aggressive demeanour than its predecessor. Honda says it will offer more space than before, along with a lower floor in the rear storage area. Expect more efficient engines, including a diesel. It will also be the first CR-V to offer a front-wheel-drive variant.

Honda's next-gen, British-built Civic hatch is likely to retain the current model's angular design when it launches here shortly after the sedan version (sourced from Thailand). Honda's CR-Z coupe has been confirmed as the world’s first hybrid vehicle to come with a six-speed manual transmission. It will be mated to a derivation of the Insight’s mild-hybrid drive system, which combines a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine with an electric motor.

Released: Apr 2011

The facelifted Jazz could be released here with 1.2-litre and 1.4-litre four-cylinder engines, the latter available with an optional continuously variable transmission (CVT). The top-spec Jazz is likely to be offered with optional leather upholstery and a number of other premium touches like chromed ings for the air-vents, instruments, climate controls and dashboard.

Released: Dec 2010

Honda hopes to hit the mainstream with its Prius-rivalling Insight hybrid, which it has announced will go on sale at $29,990 (about $10,000 less than the Prius). That said, it cannot match the Toyota's efficiency, with a fuel consumption figure of 4.6L/100km (Prius: 3.9L/100km) and CO2 emissions of 109g/km (versus 89g/km).

Honda Australia is keen to get hold of its first real challenger to the Toyota Prius. The all-new five-door hybrid car went on sale in the US in April 2009. Styled after the sleek FCX Clarity hydrogen car that is in limited production, it will be smaller, lighter and priced below the Civic hybrid.

Honda Australia will add a new compact sedan to slot in below the Civic, based on the all-new Jazz. It will compete against sedan versions of the Toyota Yaris and Holden Barina. The City sits on the Jazz platform, with boot volume of 506 litres. Power is by the 1.5-litre Jazz engine.

Evolution, not revolution, is the theme for the second-generation Jazz five-door hatch launched at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show. Australian small car buyers may have to wait until June 2007 before being able to buy the Civic Euro hatchback. Currently only built at Honda’s Swindon plant in England, the Euro hatch is a version of the current UH Civic sedan, although the two actually share very few common parts.

The new Legend sedan uses a complex all-wheel-drive system to handle the new 3.5-litre V6's 220kW and 353Nm. Rumours of a rear-drive V8 Legend have proved ill-founded.

Honda will abandon its Type R performance badge when it updates the Integra small car in late 2004. As part of the updated Integra range, however, will be a Type S variant offering similar performance to the outgoing Type R, plus a host of extra standard equipment.

Honda revealed an all-new Odyssey at the 2003 Tokyo show, and it’s due on sale here in mid-2004. The third-generation Odyssey has an 80mm-lower roof, 5mm greater headroom and a lower centre of gravity. Expect a 118kW/220Nm 2.4-litre i-VTEC base engine with seven-speed CVT gearbox, for under $50,000.

Honda will launch a facelifted Civic sedan in March, including a new petrol-electric hybrid version for the first time. All Civic sedans receive new lighting, bumpers and bonnet, while the hybrid combines a 1.3-litre engine with an electric motor to produce 69kW/157Nm with 35 per cent better fuel economy.
