Australia will be the first market outside of Europe to get Kia’s awkwardly named Pro_Cee’d GT hot hatch when it lands in local showrooms in early 2014. The pocket rocket is powered by a 1.6-litre petrol engine producing 150kW of power and 265Nm of torque and is good for a 0-100km/h sprint time of 7.7 seconds.

Released: Feb 2014

The second generation of Kia’s funky Soul hatch that was revealed at the 2013 New York motor show maintains the same boxy styling as the popular original. Larger inside and out, the Soul will be available with updated versions of the 1.6- and 2.0-litre petrol units and the 1.6-litre diesel when it arrives mid-2014.

Kia’s mid-size Optima gets a minor mid-life update in late 2013 but any cosmetic changes are hard to pick. Kia’s second-gen Koup is confirmed for a local berth at the end of 2013, just months ahead of the Pro_Cee’d GT hot-hatch. Australia’s version of the facelifted Soul will do without the new LED lighting and – instead of a new direct-injection engine – will be powered by a new 2.0-litre ‘Nu’ MPI petrol engine producing 119kW and 194Nm. The new look includes updated headlights, bonnet, front and rear bumpers, trim and enhanced interior features for a more premium feel.

As successor to the Magentis, the "car people will simply not expect from Kia" promises luxury, a rewarding drive and will launch in Platinum spec powered by a 2.4-litre petrol engine. Kia is expected to add a new 200kW 3.5 litre V6 to its recently released new-generation Sorento, launched in Australia in late 2009. Kia's second-generation Hyundai Sonata/i40-derived Magentis is due locally by the third quarter of 2010. It will compete against the likes of the Toyota Camry, Mazda6 and Subaru Liberty. Power will be fed to the front wheels by a version of Hyundai’s new 150kW 2.4 Theta II GDI engine, via a new six-speed auto transmission.

Hot on the heels of the redesigned XM Sorento, Kia will launch the long-awaited hatchback version of the TD Cerato sedan in mid-2010. It will be a two-box five-door shape with an Audi A3-esque appearance, according to Kia, powered by the same 115kW/194Nm 2.0-litre engine as the sedan.

Kia’s smallest model, the light-sized Rio, will gain a minor refresh in early 2010, ahead of its replacement in 2011. The new-look MkIII Rio will brandish Kia’s new H-shaped grille design, and should continue to be available with its 1.4 and 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engines.

Kia's new SUV-styled five-door hatch is expected in Australia by April 2009, priced at about $21,000. The tall stance and wheel-at-each-corner style is said to create a generous interior designed to appeal to active young urban dwellers. Engine choices will include 2.0-litre petrol and diesel units.

KIA revealed the car it hopes will re-invigorate the mini-MPV market at the Australian International Motor Show, called the Rondo. The compact seven-seat wagon replaces the Carens. Available with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with a choice of a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic.

Released: Sep 2007

Kia has upgraded its sportage model range with the addition of a front-drive LX model adopting a 2.0-litre 104kW four-cylinder petrol engine and an EX CRDi AWD variant with a new 2.0-litre common-rail direct-injection turbo-diesel delivering 103kW/304Nm. The 129KW 2.7-litre V6 4x4 is unchanged.

Kia Motors Australia previewed a diesel version of its popular Sorento 4WD range at the Brisbane International Motor Show, ahead of a planned introduction in July. The Sorento CRDi's 2.5-litre turbo-diesel packs 125kW of power and a mighty 392Nm of torque, plus a 2800kg towing capacity.

The replacement for Kia's entry level car debuted at the 2003 Frankfurt motor show. Picanto will replace the Pride (the previous Pride was sold in Australia as the Ford Festiva) and will go on sale here if Kia Australia can land it here under Rio price and spec at around $11,990 - which seems unlikely at this stage.
