The stylish new GLC Coupe is set to compete against the polarising BMW X4 next year. Shrinking down the aesthetics of the larger GLE Coupe, the new Mercedes-Benz SUV will be available with a range of engine choices and eventually, a high-performing AMG variant.

Japanese premium brand Infiniti will debut its small crossover, the QX30, in the second half of 2016. Few technical details have been revealed but it is likely to closely follow the specification of its lower-riding twin, the Q30.

Released: Sep 2016

Hyundai will release an all-new trio of petrol-electric hybrids in the third quarter 2016. It will pair a 1.6-litre petrol engine with an electric motor that can put out 32kW/170 Nm on its own.

Released: Sep 2016

Mazda will give its Mazda6 mid-size sedan a light refresh in September. The latest update introduces more changes to the cabin and some improvements to noise, vibration and harshness (NVH), but no styling tweaks.

Released: Sep 2016

Honda will return to the supercar arena with a hybrid-powered NSX supercar that will serve as spiritual successor to the 1990s original that was developed with the help of F1 ace Ayrton Senna. On the concept unveiled at the 2012 Detroit show a 230kW 3.5-litre V6 combined with a 30kW electric motor to drive the rear wheels through Honda’s first seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

In the second half of 2016, Infiniti will release the smallest car in its stable, the Q30 compact hatch. It will aim to rival the Audi A3, BMW 1 Series and Mercedes-Benz A Class.

The largest model in Renault’s passenger range, the Koleos, gets a range-wide update including a refreshed face, and will be offered in four different variants. It will retain the same powerplant from the old model, a 2.5-litre petrol four-cylinder that produces 126kW/226Nm.

Jaguar will make its first foray into the SUV market when it releases the F-Pace in July. It will be offered with two petrol and two diesel powertrains, and will start from $74,340 plus on-roads. Size-wise, it will sit somewhere in between the mid-size and large luxury SUV segment.

Released: Jun 2016

Subaru will try and fill a gap in its line-up that was left with the axing of its WRX wagon with the Levorg performance wagon that was revealed at the 2013 Tokyo motor show. Carrying similar front-end styling to the WRX, the Levorg will be offered with a choice of either a 1.6-litre 125kW/250Nm or 2.0-litre 221kW/400Nm direct-injection turbocharged four-cylinder boxer engines.

For the firs time, Porsche's new Boxster will be sold with four-cylinder turbo engines when it arrives in Australia in June. The 2.0-litre and 2.5-litre turbo fours will replace the 2.7-litre and 3.2-litre naturally-aspirated flat sixes in the old line-up.

Ferrari renamed its FF four-seater to GTC4Lusso ahead of its Australian debut in May 2016, bringing with it an update over the old model. Under the bonnet, the GCT4Lusso's 6.3-litre naturally aspirated 65-degree V12 has 22 more kW and 14 extra Nm, taking output to 507kW and 697Nm.

Mahindra updated its XUV500 SUV range in May, bringing with it an automatic transmission for the first time in Australia. Priced from $29,990 driveaway, it will be looking to carve out a piece of the lucrative mid-sized SUV segment.

Released: Feb 2016

Fiat will team up with Japanese car-maker Mazda to produce the next-generation 124 Spider, based on the MX-5 roadster. The twins under the skin will be built using Mazda’s SkyActiv architecture, although each car will feature unique styling and be powered by different engines. The resurrected Spider will be built in Japan but Fiat will tune it in Italy.

Peugeot's long-awaited 308 GTi will finally arrive in Australia in 2016, bringing with it a Volkswagen Golf GTI-crushing 200kW engine. The new French hot hatch will also compete against the likes of the Ford Focus ST, Subaru WRX, Renault Megane RS And Holden Astra VXR.
