Model: Barina

Released: Jan 2004

A new 1.4 "Twinport" engine for base manual models, the standard addition of Brake Assist, headlights-off delay and a split-folding rear seat, plus styling changes both inside and out are part of a midlife facelift for Holden's light car in January. The base SXi three-door also gets a $1000 price drop, to $15,990.

Model: Continental - GT

Released: Jan 2004

THE born-again British brand used the Sydney show to show its Continental GT four-seater grand tourer for the first time publicly in the Asia-Pacific region. At last count, an amazing 230 Aussies had already signed up for the 411kW, $379,990 Conti, which will begin arriving locally from January 2004.

Make: Mazda

Model: Mazda2

Released: Jan 2004

Just over a year after launch, the Mazda2 gets a minor specification shuffle, which will bring six airbags and ABS as standard to the Genki range-topper, and an additional four airbags and ABS as a $1200 option for Neo and Maxx models. There will also be new paint colours and minor trim changes.

Make: Mercedes-Benz

Model: McLaren SLR

Released: Jan 2004

Mercedes-Benz released the first official pictures of its finished SLR McLaren supercar prior to its 2003 Frankfurt motor show debut. The SLR will be available Down Under in limited numbers in 2004, with a number of Australian buyers on the order book despite the expected $1 million pricetag.

Make: Peugeot

Model: 307 - CC

Released: Jan 2004

Billed as Australia's first full four-seat cabriolet to feature a metal-folding roof, the long-awaited 307CC will finally be offered in 102kW 2.0-litre form (like 206CC and GTi) from $49,990, while the top-spec, auto-only 307CC Sport (with the GTi 180's uprated 130kW engine) will retail for $56,990.

Make: Lamborghini

Model: Gallardo

Released: Jan 2004

The 373kW AWD Gallardo was shown at the 2003 Sydney show, where it was also priced at $399,000 for the six-speed manual and $424,500 for the E-Gear model. At that stage there were already 27 deposits for Murcielago's little brother - a rival for Ferrari's 360M - which goes on sale in January.

Make: Mazda

Model: Mazda3

Released: Jan 2004

Fresh from its Frankfurt world debut in September 2003 and its Oz premiere a month later, the all-new Mazda3 sedan and hatch range goes on sale here from January 2004, replacing 323. Pricing should start at $22,500 for the 2.0-litre Neo, rising to $27,000 for the Maxx and $30,000 for the 2.3-litre SP23.

Model: Crossfire

Released: Jan 2004

Due on sale here in January 2004, the Chrysler Crossfire coupe will be priced at $69,990. Only 150 examples of the Mercedes Benz-based two-seat, rear-wheel drive coupe will be initially made available - complete with 160kW 3.2-litre V6 and either a six-speed manual or five-speed AutoStick automatic.

Model: Crewman - Cross8

Released: Jan 2004

Originally due on sale in December, the AWD version of Holden's dual-cab ute - dubbed Crewman Cross8 - has hit production delays that won't see it reach showrooms until January. Priced around $53,000 and due to gain 2000 annual sales, the V8/auto Cross8 is available in a single SS-style spec.

Make: BMW

Model: X5

Released: Jan 2004

Debuting at the 2003 Frankfurt motor show, the facelifted 2004 X5 goes on sale in Europe and Australia in January, 2004. Along with styling borrowed from its smaller X3 sibling – due on sale here in mid-2004 - the revised X5 gets a new 235kW V8 and new 150kW/480Nm turbo-diesel engine, from $84,000.

Make: HSV

Model: Avalanche

Released: Jan 2004

Avalanche is HSV's take on Holden's AWD Adventra. The Commodore wagon-based Avalanche debuted at the 2003 Sydney motor show but has been delayed from showrooms until January. It will feature a 270kW 5.7-litre V8, 0-100km/h acceleration in 6.3 seconds and $75,000-plus pricing.

Make: Volvo

Model: S80

Released: Jan 2004

Volvo will launch an updated S80 luxury flagship in January 2004, headlined by a square mesh grille, new lower bumper, bi-Xenons, sportier instruments and real woodgrain trim. The twin-turbo 200kW T6 will be the only S80 sold here, priced at the same $98,950 and available with S60 R's active Four-C chassis.

Make: Mercedes-Benz

Model: E-class - E55 Estate

Released: Jan 2004

Mercedes-Benz Australia is investigating the possibility of importing a limited number of the world’s most powerful production estate, following the European reveal of the new E55 AMG Estate. Special order-only, it packs the same 350kW/700Nm supercharged 5.5-litre V8 as the E55 AMG sedan.
