Make: Dodge

Model: Viper

Released: Dec 2004

DaimlerChryler's flagship performer and Dodge's answer to the Chev Corvette and Ford's born-again GT, the new-generation Viper will be offered Down Under by late 2004. Like the previous model, Viper will be converted to right-hand drive locally, but this time on a strictly order-only basis.

Make: Saab

Model: 9-3 - diesel

Released: Dec 2004

Saab is the latest Australian car company to consider adding turbo-diesel power to its range. In the smaller Swede’s case, it’s a sophisticated new 1.9-litre oil burner - yet to be launched in Europe - that is expected to bolster the 9-3 compact prestige sedan's 2.0-litre turbo petrol line-up here late in 2004.

Make: Hyundai

Model: Sonata

Released: Dec 2004

An all-new Sonata sedan is due to be released by Hyundai in late 2004, featuring the existing 2.7-litre V6 and a new 2.4-litre four-cylinder. The latter is the first in a new series of "Theta" alloy engines - which also includes 1.8 and 2.0-litre varieties - that will also go into Mitsubishi and Chrysler cars.

Make: Renault

Model: Megane - RS

Released: Dec 2004

The highest-performing Megane, the RS, debuted at the 2003 Frankfurt show and should go on sale Down Under just in time for Christmas 2004. A direct rival for the Focus RS, Golf R32 and Alfa 147 GTA, the three-door Megane RS packs a 168kW/300Nm 2.0-litre turbo engine and six-speed manual gearbox.

Make: Jaguar

Model: XJ - LWB

Released: Dec 2004

Based on Jaguar's new XJ large sedan is the long-wheelbase version, which debuted globally at the 2004 New York motor show. To be available Down Under from late this year on an order-only basis, the XJ LWB adds five inches to its donor car's length, 24kg of extra weight and a number of new options.
