Model: 911 - GT3 RS

Released: Mar 2004

Porsche has revived the legendary Renn Sport name, the first time it has been seen on a 996 generation 911. Just 15 examples of the 911 GT3 RS are due in Australia by March 2004 - all of them spoken for - after its makes its world debut at the Frankfurt motor show, priced at around $290,000.

Make: Saab

Model: 9-3 - Aero convertible

Released: Mar 2004

Saab added the final piece of its 9-3 puzzle when it launched the Aero convertible at the Brisbane motor show. Priced at $89,900 for the six-speed manual and $92,400 for the five-speed auto, the topless Aero matches the sedan range-topper's 155kW output and higher standard equipment levels.

Make: Mitsubishi

Model: Lancer - Evolution VIII

Released: Mar 2004

The hot new AWD turbo Lancer Evolution VIII MR, on sale soon, will feature Active Yaw Control, Recaro seats and a viscous centre diff. Aimed at the Subaru STi, Mitsubishi will import the 100 Euro-spec Evo VIIIs under the Specialist and Enthusiasts Vehicle Scheme, at well below the 2001 CE Evo VI's $80K ask.

Make: Honda

Model: Civic - sedan

Released: Mar 2004

Honda will launch a facelifted Civic sedan in March, including a new petrol-electric hybrid version for the first time. All Civic sedans receive new lighting, bumpers and bonnet, while the hybrid combines a 1.3-litre engine with an electric motor to produce 69kW/157Nm with 35 per cent better fuel economy.

Make: Land Rover

Model: Freelander

Released: Mar 2004

Due on sale in Europe and Australia during the first quarter of 2004, the Freelander facelift offers a new interior (including seats) and exterior including Rangie-style headlights. Pricing will start at $39,950 (five-door) and top out with a $45,450 three-door, all with an 82kW/260Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel.

Make: BMW

Model: 5 Series - 545i

Released: Mar 2004

BMW will add V8 power to its all-new, fifth-generation 5 Series in March, when the 545i joins the 525i and 530i on sale Down Under. Priced at $149,900 and featuring a 245kW Valvetronic 4.4-litre V8, the 545i will feature Head-Up display, satellite-navigation and bi-Xenon adaptive headlights as standard.

Make: Mercedes-Benz

Model: 7G-Tronic

Released: Mar 2004

Mercedes-Benz has announced the availability of the world's first seven-speed automatic transmission. Claimed to reduce fuel consumption by up to 0.6L/100km and to shave 0.3 seconds off 0-100km/h times, 7G-Tronic replaces the five-speed auto as standard in E500, CL500, SL500, S500 and S430.

Make: Suzuki

Model: Liana

Released: Mar 2004

Suzuki's offbeat Liana small car goes under the knife inside and out. Two new engines - a 1.5 and 1.8 - lead the changes, which also include a new nose, taillights and redesigned dashboard. Improved performance and refinement are the aims. An AWD Liana variant may also arrive here during 2004.
