Model: Actyon Sports

Released: Mar 2012

The SUT1 – standing for Sports Utility Truck – is expected to replace the Actyon Sports in Australian showrooms in the first quarter of 2012. The dual-cab five-seater retains the rugged body-on-frame construction of the Actyon Sports but gain the Korando’s new 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine and six-speed manual and automatic transmissions.

Model: S16

Released: Mar 2012

One of Australia’s cheapest new cars will finally be fitted with electronic stability control, new front and rear-end styling and a new continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) which is claimed to reduce fuel consumption by up to 10 per cent.

Released: Mar 2012

Holden is set to release a sedan version of its recently-released Barina hatchback, with claimed class-leading boot capacity and high levels of safety.

Released: Mar 2012

Providing more than twice the knee-room of the standard Ghost – afforded by an extra 170mm of length, bringing the car’s total length to 5569mm – the Ghost Extended Wheelbase also features a panoramic sunroof, which Rolls-Royce claims “sets new standards for interior ambience and light".

Released: Mar 2012

Lexus will facelift its gargantuan, Toyota Landcruiser 200 Series-based LX570 luxury SUV in March, adding more cabin technologies and tweaking the frontal styling.

Model: Prius

Released: Mar 2012

The facelifted Prius will gain no mechanical changes but will be subjected to cosmetic upgrades including updated headlights, tail-lights, a new grille, front bumper and LED daytime running lights while some variants are likely to get extra standard features.

Make: Lotus

Model: Elise

Released: Mar 2012

The supercharged Lotus Elise SC will be renamed S to bring it into line with its force-fed Evora and Exige brethren while gaining a more efficient and torquier 1.8-litre supercharged engine. The naturally-aspirated 1.6-litre Elise will gain the option of an automatic transmission dubbed Serial Precision Shift (SPS).

Model: Roomster

Released: Mar 2012

Skoda's Roomster will be back in 2012 to bolster Skoda's line-up alongside the Fabia, Yeti, Octavia and Superb. For about $25,000 it will offer revised styling, a 1.2 TSI four-cylinder turbo petrol engine and DSG dual-clutch transmission as standard.

Model: CX-5

Released: Mar 2012

The production-ready CX-5 crossover will resemble the slinky Minagi SUV concept, from the 2011 Geneva show, displaying Mazda’s energetic new Kodo design theme. It will be Mazda's first model to combine the company’s SkyActiv powertrain and chassis technologies. Engine choices will include a 113kW/191Nm petrol and a new 2.2-litre diesel producing up to 136kW/420Nm.

Model: LandCruiser 200

Released: Mar 2012

Toyota is set to massage its LandCruiser full-size SUV with a series of modifications that include a minor facelift front and rear, better safety and more comfort. The facelift debuted at the Detroit show in January 2012 and will be in local showrooms in March.

Make: BMW

Model: 3 Series - 318d and 320i

Released: Mar 2012

Entry-level 318d and 320i variants of the new BMW 3 Series will go on sale in March, with first deliveries arriving from the South African factory by June. The 318d, powered by a 105kW/320Nm) turbo-diesel from the 1 Series consumes just 4.5L/100km while the 320i employs BMW's new N20 turbo four in 135kW/270Nm tune, returning 6.2L/100km.

Model: Coupe

Released: Mar 2012

Described by its designer as a “pocket Porsche” the two-seater Coupe is expected to be about 100kg lighter than the standard Mini whilst increasing luggage capacity from 160 litres to 250 over the hatch. It will go up against the likes of the Audi TT and Peugeot RCZ when launched.

Model: Q3

Released: Mar 2012

Audi's Q3 compact luxury SUV is similar in size to the brand’s five-door A3 Sportback and parent company VW Group’s Tiguan SUV. It promises to offer low weight, decent fuel economy and practicality, despite its stylish raked tailgate. Available in front or all-wheel drive it will be powered by a choice of 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines ranging from 103kW to 155kW.

Model: Prius - C

Released: Mar 2012

Smaller and cheaper to buy and run than the standard Prius hatch, the light-sized Prius C was confirmed for Australian release after being shown at the 2011 Melbourne show.

The VW Up has spawned a mechanically identical Skoda version that is a lock for Australia. The Czech company says the Citigo will present a unique opportunity for the company to seize young car buyers.

Model: Camry - Hybrid

Released: Mar 2012

Toyota Australia has signalled its long-term confidence in the Camry Hybrid by planning to source as much as half of the hybrid drivetrain for the second-generation model from local suppliers, including a new $331m engine plant at Altona.

Model: Yeti

Released: Mar 2012

The Yeti compact SUV will receive a mid-spec 118kW petrol-powered all-wheel-drive variant to plug the $9400 price gap between the petrol front-drive base model and the four-paw diesel range-topper.

Model: XK - S

Released: Mar 2012

The XKR-S, with its 405kW of power and 680Nm of torque on tap, will race to 100km/h in just 4.4 seconds and is likely to crash through the $300,000 barrier when it arrives Down Under. Top speed for the fastest series production Jaguar ever is listed at 300km/h, which is 50km/h faster than the XKR.

Model: Roadster

Released: Mar 2012

BMW’S Roadster is expected to go into production alongside the Coupe in early 2012. Just as the pre-revealed Coupe has done, the Roadster has an unmistakable Mini flavour to its design and a sporting character with its fabric roof. The Roadster relies on the 128kW/240Nm Cooper S engine.

Jeep's 2012 Wrangler will be updated with a new 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 engine, producing 212kW of power and 352Nm of torque. Out with the old engine goes the four-speed automatic transmission, replaced with a five-speed unit.
