Model: Superb

Released: May 2010

The Superb wagon is poised to appear in the first half of 2010, powered by the 1.8-litre TFSI petrol or 2.0-litre TDI turbo-diesel four-cylinder engines as used in other Skoda models. The Superb wagon is said to be exceptionally commodious as well as quite attractive. Expect mid-$30,000 pricing.

Make: Volkswagen

Model: Polo

Released: May 2010

Volkswagen will launch its fifth-generation Polo range by mid-2010. Available in five-door and three-door hatch bodystyles, it will be offered with three engines including a cracking 77kW/175Nm 1.2-litre turbo petrol TSI engine. Power will be fed via a regular manual transmission or the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic (DSG) gearbox.

Make: Volvo

Model: C30 - 1.6D DRIVe

Released: May 2010

Volvo’s is expected to launch the facelifted C30 DRIVe-spec model locally in April 2010. It uses a state-of-the-art 1.6-litre turbo-diesel engine, returning a combined average fuel figure of 3.8 litres per 100km – 0.1L/100km better than official figures of both the Toyota Prius hybrid and diesel Mini Cooper D.

Make: BMW

Model: Z4 - sDrive35is

Released: May 2010

On sale here in May is the Z4 sDrive35is, which packs a 250kW/450Nm (500Nm during overboost) version of the standard Z4 35i’s twin-turbo straight six, and adds an M bodykit and M suspension tune for about $130,000.The optimised engine punches the Z4 35is to 100km/h in a claimed 4.8 seconds.

Make: Toyota

Model: Rukus

Released: May 2010

The Rukus will be Toyota’s first addition to its Australian model range in seven years. It is essentially a Toyota-badged version of the Scion xB ‘urban utility vehicle’. The Rukus will be powered by a 123kW 2.4-litre DOHC 16-valve four-cylinder petrol, via four-speed automatic proposition only.

Make: BMW

Model: 5 Series

Released: May 2010

BMW will launch its F10-generation 5 Series sedan locally by mid-2010. Built on a shortened modular chassis that underpins the 7 Series and 5 Series GT, the new Five spans the 135kW 520d with idle-stop function to the range-topper 550i powered by BMW’s twin-turbocharged 300kW 4.4-litre V8.

Model: Mazda2

Released: May 2010

Mazda has confirmed that by mid-2010 Australia-bound Mazda2’s will be produced at its new state-of-the-art production plant in Thailand, bringing with it an all-new sedan version of the popular light car to join it’s hatchback sibling.

Model: C70 - coupe-convertible

Released: May 2010

Sweden’s number one vehicle brand will launch a facelifted C70 coupe-convertible offering a fresh look and updated engines, while reworked front fenders, new grille and bolder headlamps, contribute to a sharper, more streamlined front fascia. At the rear, the C70 gets its own specific LED lights.

Make: Suzuki

Model: Kizashi

Released: May 2010

The growing mid-sized sedan sector is under Suzuki’s close scrutiny, as it prepares a rival for the Mazda6, Honda Accord Euro and Ford Mondeo. A concept car revealing much of this model’s look was presented at the 2007 Frankfurt show. An Australian debut is pencilled in for an early 2010 launch.

Model: Sonata

Released: May 2010

Hyundai’s new generation YF Sonata (a nameplate it won't wear in Australia) is expected here by mid-2010. HMC’s biggest-selling car in South Korea - but one which struggles in Australia against the Toyota Camry and Mazda6 - will be powered by a new 150kW 2.4 Theta II GDI engine.
