Ford's long-awaited fourth-generation Mondeo will land in early 2015, with range-wide safety features and a diesel-powered option claiming to be more fuel efficient than the Toyota Camry Hybrid.

The Mondeo's 118kW 2.3-litre four-cylinder engine will be replaced in mid-spec Zetec and luxury Titanium hatch variants for a 149kW/300Nm version of Ford’s new EcoBoost 2.0-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol four. Combined with a dual-clutch six-speed Powershift gearbox the new drivetrain is claimed to improve average fuel consumption by 16 per cent to eight litres per 100km.

Ford previewed the Mondeo wagon at the 2008 Melbourne show. With a luggage capacity of 535 litres, increasing to a sizeable 1733. The wagon range is expected to be launched alongside the updated MB Mondeo range.

Ford debuted its next-gen Mondeo at the 2007 Melbourne motor show, and has confirmed a late-2007 on-sale date. To be offered in both five-door and four-door guises, Mondeo will offer two petrol engines (a 167kW 2.5-litre five-cylinder and a 120kW 2.3-litre four), plus a 2.0-litre TDCi turbo-diesel.
