Ford will tempt hot hatch fans with a hot Fiesta ST pocket rocket, which with an expected 134kW of power and 240Nm of torque from its 1.6-litre EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, will bolt to 100km/h in less than seven seconds, making it the most potent Fiesta ever built for the road despite fuel consumption and CO2 emissions cut by 20 per cent over the previous model.

With production shifting to Thailand, a Fiesta Sedan will join the range for the first time, with petrol powered sedans receiving automatic-only transmissions in the guise of Ford's Powershift (similar to Volkswagen's DSG) gearbox, linked to a 1.6-litre Ti-VCT engine packing 89kW and 151Nm of torque. The 66kW/200Nm 1.6 TDCi diesel engine option is closely related to that of the co-existing Econetic model and will be distribute power through a five-speed manual transmission.

Ford Australia’s surprise reveal at the Melbourne show was the fuel-sipping diesel-powered version of its Fiesta light car. The ECOnetic Fiesta diesel is claimed to average just 3.7L/100km and sub-100g/km emissions rating. Power is by a 66kW/200Nm 1.6-litre Duratorq TDCi common-rail diesel engine.

Ford revealed its redesigned Fiesta light car at the Australian International Motor Show. The three-door and five-door hatch range will start at $15,750. Available in an 88kW 1.6-litre engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission standard across the Fiesta range, or a four-speed auto mated to a 71kW 1.4-litre engine.

Ford has registered the XR4, which could point to a hot 2.0-litre Fiesta late in the year. But Ford will not say when or even if. If it does arrive it will be close to the Peugeot 206 GTi prices, so around $30,000.

The all-new, Euro-built hatch range will comprise a three or five-door Fiesta LX, a three-door Fiesta Zetec and five-door Fiesta Ghia, each with a 74kW 1.6. Pricing opens at $14,490, but air adds $2000 and auto $3000.
