Released: Jun 2011

Audi have beefed-up the chic and stylish A1 range with the addition of the Sport hatchback. The Ingolstadt manufacturer has shoehorned a tuned version of the VW Polo GTi’s turbo-four that produces 136kW and 250Nm of torque from 1500rpm.

Make: Hyundai

Model: Elantra

Released: Jun 2011

Hyundai’s new Elantra small sedan will go on sale here in the third quarter of 2011, with styling based on the larger i45 sedan's fresh ‘fluidic sculpture’ design language. Also expect a new 1.6-litre direct-injection petrol four, with six-speed transmissions.

Make: Kia

Model: Carnival

Released: Jun 2011

Kia’s top-selling people mover gets a freshen-up with equipment upgrades, a muscular new 2.2-litre turbo-diesel and small price increases. The company has also axed the 2.7-litre V6-powered short-wheelbase S model from the range.

Make: Mercedes-Benz

Model: CLS-class

Released: Jun 2011

The new CLS presents a new design direction for the German luxury brand. Compared to the outgoing model, the styling is more agressive, with sharper body creases, more heavily flared wheel-arches, beefy rear side haunches and a new front-end treatment that, like the SLS AMG supercar, features a prominent separate grille dominated by a large three-pointed star badge.

Make: Hyundai

Model: Santa Fe

Released: Jun 2011

Hyundai’s mid-sized SUV gets two-wheel drive and petrol options, lowering the starting price of the range to $36,990. The drivetrain/engine combination is available in three all-auto specification grades. All are powered by a new 204kW, 3.5-litre V6 petrol.

Model: Sportage

Released: Jun 2011

The Kia Sportage gets an upgrade just eight months after its local launch, with an across-the-board price increase of $230 balanced out by more standard equipment including (depending on the variant) standard rubber mats, new seat trim and bigger brake discs.

Released: Jun 2011

The facelifted 1 Series coupe and convertible range features subtle tweaks to the exterior, as well as new colours and wheel options, priced from $47,400 (in 120i Coupe form).

Make: Jeep

Model: Grand Cherokee - CRD

Released: Jun 2011

3.0-litre V6 turbo CRD to join Grand Cherokee range here in June. Produces 177kW and 550Nm, while consuming a combined-cycle 8.3L/100km and emitting 218g/km of CO2. Pricing is yet to be finalised but the diesel engine option is expected to cost around the same as the Hemi V8, which costs $60,000 in Limited guise.

Make: Ford

Model: Mondeo - EcoBoost

Released: Jun 2011

The Mondeo's 118kW 2.3-litre four-cylinder engine will be replaced in mid-spec Zetec and luxury Titanium hatch variants for a 149kW/300Nm version of Ford’s new EcoBoost 2.0-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol four. Combined with a dual-clutch six-speed Powershift gearbox the new drivetrain is claimed to improve average fuel consumption by 16 per cent to eight litres per 100km.
