Porsche’s most powerful Panamera yet – the Turbo S – arrives early in the year with a 420kW/750Nm 4.8-litre twin-turbo V8 that has a top speed of 310km/h, although the new model maintains the same 0-100km/h time of 3.8 seconds.

Porsche’s Panamera range gets an update in late 2013, but the controversial styling will remain largely unchanged. The update will mainly be related to powertrains, with a new plug-in hybrid version on the cards and an upgraded V6. Fuel consumption for the Hybrid Porsche is a respectable 3.5 litres per 100km, compared to 7.1L/100km for the current hybrid model.

At $440,200 the Panamera Turbo S represents a $68,000 price premium over the all-wheel drive Panamera Turbo on which it is based. That buys the most powerful version ever seen of Porsche's 4.8-litre petrol V8, producing 410kW and 750Nm outputs (increasing to 800Nm for short bursts in ‘overboost’ mode). The result is a sprint to 100km/h in 3.8 seconds.
