Make: Volvo

Model: V40

Released: Feb 2013

Volvo will release an all-new model to its Australian line-up in the form of the V40 luxury hatch in early 2013. The Swedish brand says that the V40 will be well-specified and come with the usual array of safety features buyers expect, and it will be pitched against the BMW 1-Series, Audi A3 and Mercedes’ upcoming A-Class.

Make: Nissan

Model: GT-R

Released: Feb 2013

Nissan’s almighty GT-R will get an upgrade in early 2013 with an improved 0-100km/h figure of 2.7 seconds - 0.1 seconds faster than the previous model. Handling and ride have been improved for the MY2013 GT-R and a top-spec ‘Premium Edition’ has been added that includes a hand-stitched red leather interior option for a $4800 premium over the standard model.

Make: BMW

Model: 3 Series - Touring

Released: Feb 2013

The wagon version of BMW’s hugely successful sixth-generation 3 Series will arrive almost a year after its sedan sibling was released in Australia. The load-lugger is expected to be offered with an eight-speed automatic transmission and fewer variants than the 3 Series sedan. BMW claims the Touring will have improved dynamics and be 40kg lighter than the model it replaces.

Make: Mini

Model: Countryman - John Cooper Works

Released: Feb 2013

Mini’s high-riding Countryman crossover is getting the John Cooper Works treatment and Australia will get a taste in the last quarter of 2012. The hotted-up Mini will come with an optional six-speed steptronic automatic transmission and will race to 100km/h in 7.0 seconds.

Make: Land Rover

Model: Range Rover

Released: Feb 2013

The next all-new Range Rover is scheduled for 2013. It will benefit from an aluminium bodyshell to cut as much as 40 per cent of its weight. Power will be via two 5.0-litre V8 petrol engines, a bigger diesel engine and the possibility of a hybrid powertrain down the track.

Make: Opel

Model: Astra - OPC

Released: Feb 2013

Europe’s hottest front-wheel-drive hatch, the Opel Astra OPC instantly becomes the fledgling German brand’s halo model. The turbocharged 2.0-litre OPC produces 206kW of power, edging out respected competition such as the RenaultSport Megane, Ford Focus ST and Volkswagen Golf GTI and will be priced slightly above each of those models at $42,990.

Make: ZX

Model: GrandTiger

Released: Feb 2013

Another Chinese brand will try its luck in Australia when ZX Auto releases its GrandTiger range of utilities. The GrandTiger will be sold in cab-chassis and dual-cab ute styles with a choice of 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrains. Initially a Mitsubishi-sourced 93kW 2.4-litre petrol four-cylinder engine will power the ute but a Toyota-based 2.5-litre turbo-diesel is due later.

Make: Volkswagen

Model: Beetle

Released: Feb 2013

More muscular and masculine than the New Beetle that revived the nameplate in 1998, the 2012 Beetle again will share its underpinnings with the VW Golf. Bigger dimensions are expected to provide a roomier cabin. Expect a choice of three TSI petrol and two TDI diesel engines ranging from 77kW to 147kW.

Make: Hyundai

Model: i30 - Tourer

Released: Feb 2013

Korean carmaker Hyundai will re-introduce the wagon version of its i30 small car after initially ruling it out. The load lugger will be sourced from Hyundai’s Czech plant and will be available in two specifications – entry-level Active and mid-spec Elite. Both versions will be available with either petrol or diesel powertrains in manual or auto guise and come at a $2000 premium over their hatch siblings.

Make: Audi

Model: A4 - Avant

Released: Feb 2013

331kW at 8250rpm, in a wagon! This figure sets the scene for the Audi RS4 Avant, which can blast from zero to 100km/h in 4.7 seconds. An equally impressive 430Nm is developed from 4000rpm to 6000rpm, with all all four wheels driven via Audi’s S-tronic seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Make: Nissan

Model: Patrol

Released: Feb 2013

The redesigned Nissan Patrol off-roader launched in the Middle East in February 2010 but won't be launched locally until early 2013. Based on a full ladder chassis with all-coil suspension, the Patrol will have significantly revised V8 petrol engines and the possibility of a common-rail turbo-diesel down the track if Nissan can make the numbers add up.

Make: Lamborghini

Model: Sesto Elemento

Released: Feb 2013

Super-lightweight at 999kg and super-powerful with 419kW, Lamborghini claims the Sesto Elemento concept can blast from 0-100km/h in a phenomenal 2.5 seconds. Various carbon-fibre technologies are said to have made their world-first automotive application with this car. The lightweight construction also aids the reduction of fuel consumption and emissions.

Make: Toyota

Model: RAV4

Released: Feb 2013

Toyota plans to reclaim the title of the top-selling medium SUV when it launches its all-new RAV4 in early 2013. The fourth generation RAV4 follows a similar design to the angular 2013 Corolla.
