JAGUAR Australia is hoping to keep in stride with its German rivals by offering its new all-wheel-drive-only E-Pace premium small SUV from $47,750 before on-roads, undercutting all-paw versions of the BMW X1, Audi Q3 and Mercedes-Benz GLA when it arrives in the second quarter of 2018.

Expected to overtake the F-Pace to become the British brand’s best-selling model, the new Jaguar crossover is split into two different body styles, the standard E-Pace and R-Dynamic version four specification levels, base, S, SE and HSE and across five engines, three diesel and two petrol.

Two special First Edition versions will also be made available in the first year of production, bringing the total variant-count to 38 at launch.

All versions are underpinned by an all-wheel-drive system and a nine-speed automatic transmission as standard.

Kicking off the range is the $47,750 E-Pace D150 powered by a 110kW/380Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine, enabling a zero to 100km/h sprint time of 10.5 seconds, an average fuel consumption rating of 5.6 litres per 100km and carbon dioxide emissions of 147 grams per kilometre.

Stepping up to the D180 increases outputs to 132kW/430Nm and price to $50,150, while the 0-100km/h sprint is cut to 9.3s with fuel economy and emissions remaining steady at 5.6L/100km and 147g/km respectively.

Finally, the base E-Pace can also be had with a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol P250 engine producing 183kW/365NM for the same price as the D180.

The landmark triple digit sprint in the petrol-powered version is cut to 7.0s, while the E-Pace P250 will sip 7.7L/100km and expel 174g/km of CO2.

Moving to the S grade adds $7450 to the asking price of the aforementioned D150, D180 and P250, while a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel D240, as well as a turbo-petrol P300, are also made available in this specification level for $64,020 each.

The 177kW/500Nm D240 will sprint to 100km/h in 7.4s, while fuel economy is rated at 6.2L/100km and CO2 emissions at 162g/100km.

The petrol 221kW/400Nm P300 cuts the sprint time down to 6.4s, and is slightly thirstier at 8.0L/100km and more pollutant at 181g/km of CO2.

E-Pace SE grades can also be had with the same choice of engines, each adding $4830 to the asking price, except the P300 SE version that sits $6245 upstream from the P300 S.

Sitting as the most well-specified E-Pace, the HSE starts at $65,590 for the D150, $67,990 for the D180, $74,410 for the D240, $69,147 for the P250 and tops out at $77,493 for the P300.

As standard, base E-Pace vehicles are equipped with 17-inch wheels, automatic LED headlights, heated side mirrors, fabric seats, leather steering wheel, six-speaker sound system, automatic wipers, dual-zone climate control, tailgate spoiler, All Surface Progress Control (ASPC), push button start, 10.0-inch Touch Pro infotainment system, autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, and front and rear parking sensors.

S grades gain 18-inch wheels, daytime running lights, leather interior, 10-way power adjustable front seats, puddle lamps, folding side mirrors, auto-dimming rearview mirror, satellite navigation, 360-degree cameras, rear traffic monitor and Wi-Fi hot spotting.

Stepping up to the SE level nets 19-inch wheels, automatic high beam headlights, powered tailgate, 14-way adjustable front seats, 11-speaker sound system, high-speed emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and blind spot assist.

Top-spec HSE versions will wear 20-inch wheels and feature a kick-to-open tailgate, keyless entry, 18-way adjustable front seats and head-up display.

R-Dynamic versions – which include a subtle bodykit, satin chrome highlights around the gloss black front grille and front fog-lights – add from $4800 to $6690 to the price depending on engine and trim level.

Inside, E-Pace R-Dynamic vehicles gain a new-look steering wheel, black gearshift paddles and headlining, sports seats, and metal pedals.

Buyers also have a choice of two First Edition versions based on the D180 or P250 versions of the R-Dynamic SE grades, priced at $80,952 and $84,370 respectively.

Both special editions will sport 20-inch wheels, a panoramic sunroof, First Edition carpet mats, leather seats and metal treadplates, additional power sockets and activity key as standard.
