Fuel consumption and styling improvements for BMW’s 6 Series Coupe and Convertible

BMW Australia has announced the imminent arrival of upgraded versions of the 6 Series Coupe and Convertible, both of which will increase in price by more than $6000.

Due in local showrooms from November, the revised 6 Series two-door models employ the Brake Energy Regeneration system from BMW’s EfficientDynamics technology warehouse, reducing combined-cycle fuel consumption by more than five per cent on both models.

By generating electric power from energy otherwise wasted as lost heat via the brake system, the 2010 650i Coupe reduces its average fuel consumption by 5.4 per cent, from 11.1 to 10.5 litres per 100km, while the 650i Convertible’s fuel economy improves by 6.8 per cent, from 11.7 to 10.9L/100km.

14 center imageAlso new for the 2010 model year 6 Series is a new bonnet with arrow-shaped character lines, a new exhaust system with dark chrome rear outlets, BMW Individual high-gloss shadow line and new 19-inch alloy wheels (up from 18-inch) with 245/40-section front and 275/35 rear tyres.

There are no changes to the 270kW/490Nm 4.8-litre Valvetronic petrol V8 that powers the 650i, with the coupe continuing to sprint to 100km/h in a claimed 5.2 seconds and the convertible acceleration to the national highway limit in 5.6.

Interior upgrades include the fitment of BMW’s latest iDrive control system, which introduces a new high-resolution 8.8-inch monitor with Professional navigation, high-definition TV and 80GB hard drive, 12GB of which is available for audio files. Navigation system upgrades now take place via USB upload at BMW dealerships.

Two new exterior colours will also be available - Imola Red and Carbon Black – while the interior on both vehicles continues to come as standard in Pearl leather, with the no-cost option of Saddle Brown light, Chateau, Cream Beige or Black.

Similarly, the 6 Series’ brushed aluminium interior highlights can be changed at no extra cost to Birch Grain or Maple Grain woodgrain trim, while standard features continue to extend to a BMW M steering wheel, anthracite-coloured BMW Individual roof lining and a lighting package.

Prices increase by $6139 for the coupe (now $227,300) and $6144 for the convertible, which now costs $245,100.

  • In order for us to effect a lead you must you must complete a New Car Lead Enquiry (“Enquiry”).
  • We will call you as soon as possible after you complete the Enquiry and certainly no later than the next business day. When we call, we will discuss with you your new car requirements.
  • You consent to our passing on the Enquiry and your requirements to an appropriate authorised motor car dealer as a lead.
  • We will contact you again in approximately eight days following your initial enquiry to check on the progress of the Enquiry.
  • While we will provide the dealer with the Enquiry and details of your new car requirements, we take no responsibility for what happens after passing on that material as a lead.
  • You acknowledge that we are a new car information service providing new car editorial information, pictures and prices to our customers as a guide only. Any new car prices published on the website are the manufacturers’ recommended retail prices and do not include delivery charges and on-road costs. Any authorized motor car dealer to which we pass on your Enquiry as a lead will provide you with full details of the price at which the vehicle will be sold to you.
  • You acknowledge that we do not sell motor vehicles. Any sale of a new car to you by a dealer after we have passed on your Enquiry to that dealer as a lead, is a sale by that dealer not by us.
