A squared-off roofline (dubbed Thunderbird-style), a new grille and bumpers, chrome-ringed taillights and a myriad of trim changes inside and out marked the XL Falcon.
The Futura debuted to battle the popular EJ Premier, while the less-successful Squire wagon boasted fake wood body side panelling.
But despite an improved manual gearbox, carburettor and some suspension changes, the XL wasn’t nearly as durable as the Holden. 75,765 XLs left the factory.
