MITSUBISHI'S latest Pajero, the NM series, is no quick, slap-up, cosmetic job. What the company has done is re-think what a large 4WD should really be and basically started with the proverbial clean sheet of paper. Apart from its polarising looks, it brings new levels of road-going ability, comfort and safety into the 4WD wagon class. Lower, wider and longer than before, it looks purposeful on the road as well as offering handier interior dimensions.

Ended: June 2000
Family Tree: Pajero
The Pajero, like other large 4WDs, had a long model life, gaining extra knick-knacks and styling changes along the way. Sitting just below the heavy-hitting Patrols and LandCruisers, the Pajero was possibly the first big 4WD to achieve acceptance as a regular station wagon substitute.
