Volkswagen updates T-Roc for ‘23

More technology, renewed styling and a higher price headline compact SUV’s update

4 May 2022

VOLKSWAGEN will launch an updated T-Roc range this August, with the small SUV set to undergo a visual update, while also receiving notable technology and safety upgrades.

Now priced from $37,250 (plus on-road costs), the asking price for the entry-level T-Roc has risen $2550 compared with that of the pre-facelift model. The T-Roc Sport, previously $41,800 (+ ORCs), is replaced by the T-Roc R-Line from $45,350 – a difference of $3550.

Importantly, all T-Roc variants now receive, as standard, Volkswagen’s IQ Drive Travel Assist system with lane centring, adaptive cruise control (with Stop & Go functionality), side- and lane assist, rear-traffic alert, as well as park assist.

Other safety technologies include six airbags, front assist with pedestrian monitoring, proactive occupant-protection system, rear-view camera, LED headlights, and light assist.

The smarter interior execution of the MY23 T-Roc range incorporates revisions such as a premium soft-touch dashboard with decorative stitching, optional Nappa leather upholstery, digital instrument panel, wireless charging pad, as well as touch-sensitive climate controls and steering-wheel buttons on high-grade variants.

A new, fast-response and high-resolution 8.0-inch infotainment cluster with included DAB+ digital radio reception is offered on all T-Roc grades. An six-speaker Beats audio system with an eight-channel amplifier, subwoofers and 300W system output is optional.

Other in-cabin updates include a Ceramique headlining and Deep Iron Grey gloss inlays on Style variants, with Lava Stone Black gloss inlays on R-Line and new 221kW R variants.

Externally, the T-Roc adopts a revised headlamp treatment and grille, the latter of which has a textured chrome garnish (or illuminated strip, on T-Roc R variants). A colour-contrasting roof remains available on all grades.

A further breakdown of the T-Roc Style shows a carryover 110kW/250Nm 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine and eight-speed automatic transmission – with combined cycle fuel consumption of just 6.3 litres per 100 kilometres.

The entry-grade variant is equipped with Travel Assist, Digital Cockpit, wireless charging, dark-tinted rear/rear-side windows, steering wheel-mounted gearshift paddles, driving profile selection and comfort sport front seats with microfleece upholstery.

Also standard are 18-inch Grange Hill alloy wheels, keyless entry, electrically folding door mirrors, front-seat lumbar adjustment, LED interior ambient lighting, rain-sensing windscreen wipers, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, dual-zone climate control, plus a leather multi-function steering wheel.

Furthermore, a Sound & Vision package for $2000 (incorporating 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro, Discover Media navigation and Wireless App-Connect, as well as a Beats premium audio system) is optional on the Style variant.

All-wheel-drive T-Roc R-Line variants continue to be powered by a 140kW/320Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission combination, which is said to offer combined cycle fuel consumption of 7.3 litres per 100km.

Compared with the Sport variant it replaces, the R-Line now includes Travel Assist, wireless charging pad, R-Line interior styling, voice control, sport front seats with R-Line fabric and a sport leather multi-function steering wheel with gearshift paddles.

Additional highlights include R-Line exterior and interior styling, 18-inch Nevada alloy wheels, sports suspension, progressive steering, Digital Cockpit Pro, Discover Media navigation and Wireless App-Connect.

R-Line customers may further option a Black Style package for $2900 incorporating 19"-inch Misano Black alloy wheels, black interior and exterior styling details, a black roof, Adaptive Chassis Control and Beats premium audio system.

Both the T-Roc Style and R-Line are further offered with leather upholstery from $3450 (Vienna leather) and $3950 (Nappa leather) on respective variants. The option includes heated front seats and an electrically adjustable driver's seat with memory.

Other options include a panoramic sunroof for $2000 and an electrically adjustable tailgate with Easy Open & Close function for $600.

“The upgraded T-Roc delivers a major technology upgrade – arriving with premium and sports design elements that compact SUV customers most desire,” said Volkswagen brand director Michal Szaniecki.

“The T-Roc is a hit in Australia, and this will be further bolstered by a range expansion that is more sporting and tech-focused than ever before.”
