Hyundai prices Ioniq 6 BEV for Australia

Local orders for sleek Hyundai Ioniq 6 BEV sedan open this month from $74K + ORC

8 Feb 2023

HYUNDAI will introduce its second Ioniq model to Australia from later this month, the Ioniq 6 priced from $74,000 plus on-road costs.

The streamlined model range will rival the highly popular – and less expensive – Tesla Model 3 with a choice of three variants offering up to 239kW of power, 614km of driving range, and the availability of two- or all-wheel drive.

Hyundai is expected to retail its Ioniq 6 online, much the same way it does with its current Ioniq 5. Order books will open from February 22.

All Ioniq 6 variants are powered by a 77.4kWh battery pack, the Dynamiq grade utilising a single 168kW/350Nm rear-mounted motor to provide 614km (WLTP) range and a claimed 0-100km/h time of 7.4 seconds.

Mid-tier Techniq and flagship Eqip grades add a 74kW/255Nm motor to the front wheels to provide all-wheel drive, and a total system figure of 239kW/605Nm. The AWD variants offer a claimed WLTP range of 519km and 0-100km/h time of 5.1 seconds.

All variants are capable of being recharged via a 350kW ultra-fast DC charger providing a claimed 10 to 80 per cent top-up time of 18 minutes.

With a slippery 0.21Cd drag coefficient enabling a greater range from the same battery size and driveline as the Ioniq 5, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 measures 4855mm in length, 1880mm in width, 1495mm in height and 2950mm in wheelbase.

Standard equipment levels for the entry-grade Dynamiq include 18-inch alloy wheels, head-up display, dual 12.3-inch screens with Bose premium sound, power adjustable and heated front seats, leather appointed upholstery and adaptive LED headlights.

The mid-tier Techniq (from $83,500 plus ORCs) adds 20-inch wheels, relaxation seats with front ventilation, a heated steering wheel and outboard rear seats and a sunroof.

Finally, the range-topping Epiq (from $88,000 plus ORCs) adds camera-based wing mirrors, heat pump and battery conditioning system.

All Ioniq 6 grades are offered with what Hyundai calls a Lifetime Servicing Plan with service intervals at 24 months or 30,000km (whichever comes first). All services irrespective of grade or driveline cost $560. The only available option on the vehicle is matte paint, which attracts a $1000 premium.

Hyundai offers a five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty of the Ioniq 6, as well as an eight-year/160,000km warranty for the high voltage battery.

“We are thrilled to introduce our first-ever Ioniq 6 as the latest addition to our Ioniq range,” said Hyundai Motor Company Australia CEO Ted Lee.

“The Ioniq 6’s 800V EV architecture is just the beginning of the advanced technology, which also includes expanded SmartSense and Bluelink suites, and the capability for over-the-air system updates.

“The Ioniq 6 showcases the Hyundai brand’s technological ambition and our commitment to developing sustainable mobility solutions, while giving customers an exciting, accessible and versatile EV.”
