BMW X7 lands from $119,900 BOCs

Aggressive pricing for X7 as BMW guns for upper-large luxury SUV crown

4 Mar 2019

BMW Group Australia has confirmed its hulking X7 upper-large luxury SUV will land in local showrooms in May with a pair of diesel engines, priced at $119,900 before on-roads for the xDrive30d and $168,900 for the M50d.

Powered by a turbocharged 3.0-litre six cylinder, the entry-level X7 produces 195kW/620Nm for a zero-to-100km/h sprint in 7.0 seconds, while the quad-turboc M50d extracts 294kW/760Nm from the same engine size for a 5.4s run.

Both units send drive to all four wheels via an eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.

Pricing and performance pits the X7 favorably against rivals including the 190kW/620Nm Mercedes-Benz GLS350d ($118,730) and 200kW/650Nm V8-powered Lexus LX450d ($134,129).

Standard on the X7 seven-seater are 20-inch wheels, height-adjustable adaptive air suspension, soft-close doors, a panoramic glass sunroof, front sports seats with heating, a head-up display, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment system with voice and gesture commands, Apple CarPlay, wireless smartphone charging, four-zone climate control and a 10-speaker sound system.

Safety gear includes adaptive LED headlights, lane departure warning, autonomous emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert, a reversing camera, a surround-view monitor and speed limit recognition.

Stepping up to the X7 M50d ups the opulence with 22-inch wheels, metallic paint, front comfort seats, Merino-appointed upholstery, an Alcantara headliner, five-zone climate control, heated and cooled front cupholders, a Harman/Kardon sound system, laser headlights and rear-axle steering.

However, to earn the M badge, the top-tier X7 is also kitted out with an M Aerodynamics package, an M leather steering wheel, an M Sport exhaust, an M Sport differential and M Sport brakes.

BMW’s X7 also offers 326 litres of storage volume in the boot, which can expand to 750L and 2120L with the third- and second-row seats respectively stowed.

Options include an xOffroad package for the base xDrive30d, as well as a Design Pure Excellence and M Sport Package.

BMW Group Australia CEO Vikram Pawah said the new X7 sets a new high watermark for the Bavarian brand’s SUV range.

“By utilizing decades of expertise from creating world renowned premium sedans and Sports Activity Vehicles, we have created the first ever BWM X7,” he said.

“It’s innovate technologies, sophisticated workmanship, bold exterior and superior dynamics make the BMW X7 a statement of luxury and exclusivity.

“This game-changing BMW X range-topper sets a new benchmark for opulence, unrivalled by anything in the premium Sports Activity vehicle segment.”
