A facelift of the J2, the RD saw a revised nose, cabin and tail-lights, as well as the availability of a 101kW 2.0L engine.
The range was reduced to the SE 1.8 sedan and wagon and GLS 2.0 sedan and wagon, all with the option of a four-speed auto.
A five-year warranty was introduced in 1999.
The redesigned XD Lantra Mk3 was introduced in October 2000, minus the popular Sportswagon model.
