Nissan ‘X-Trail’ updated in the US

NISSAN has revealed an updated X-Trail range for the US market, the mid-sized ‘Rogue’ (as it is known there) sporting a refreshed look and updated features.

The current Rogue (which is built in Tennessee for the local market) has been on sale in the United States for close to three years – and available locally for just short of 12 months – meaning any updated applied in the US market may take up to two years to trickle down to local showrooms.

An Australian arrival date for the updated (and Japanese built) X-Trail is yet to be announced with Nissan Australia telling GoAuto there are no imminent plans to update the model Down Under.

“Nissan North America has recently announced details of mid-life revisions to its segment-leading Rogue SUV which was launched late in 2020,” said a Nissan Australia spokesperson.

“However, there are no imminent mid-life revisions yet finalised for the X-Trail here where it is still relatively new in the marketplace – keeping in mind the most significant difference is that Nissan offered the X-Trail here with the advanced e-Power electrified powertrain, which isn’t available to Rogue buyers in North America.”

Mechanically, the US-built Rogue/X-Trail continues to be offered solely with Nissan’s 150kW/305Nm 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine paired exclusively with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and the option of front- or all-wheel drive.

Australian X-Trail models are currently available with a 135kW/245Nm 2.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol or the e-Power petrol/electric hybrid developing 157kW via the combination of a 106kW/250Nm three-cylinder turbo-petrol ‘generator’, 2.1kWh battery, and twin electric motors (150kW/330Nm front, 100kW/195Nm rear).

So, what are we missing?

The mid-life facelift sees the X-Trail fitted with remoulded bumpers front and rear, a new and wider-look V-motion grille, available gloss black body mouldings, satin-look badging, revised LED tail-lights and redesigned 18- and 19-inch alloy wheels.

Three new paint colours are added to the palette, Baja Storm, Deep Ocean Blue, and Everest White.

Inside the cabin, the updated X-Trail scores an optional 12.3-inch infotainment array (as per Australian models) as an upgrade over the 8.0-inch version backed by Google enhanced services including built-in Google Assistance, Google Maps and Google Play.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity remain and are joined by Amazon Alexa (voice-controlled services) and a suite of mobile-phone activated connected services that enable functions including emergency services call, remote lock/unlock, remote start, and vehicle locator.

The number of upholstery and trim garnishes increases with the addition of a tan-coloured leather option and revised console, dashboard, door card and seat materials.

Locally, the 2023 Nissan X-Trail is currently priced from $37,250 plus on-road costs. It competes in the bustling Medium SUV under $60K segment where it currently ranks seventh with year-to-date sales of 9350 units.

The popular Medium SUV under $60K segment is topped by the Toyota RAV4 (22,388 units) ahead of the Mitsubishi Outlander (17,762), Mazda CX-5 (16,895), Hyundai Tucson (16,173), Subaru Forester (12,113) and Kia Sportage (11,113).

The top 10 is rounded out by the BYD Atto 3 (8706), GWM Haval H6 (6547) and Honda CR-V (6174).
