The facelifted Korando compact SUV kicks off SsangYong's image make-over
10 Jun 2014
AUSTRALIANS are now ready for SsangYong.
That is what the Korean car-maker’s Australian bosses believe.
We have welcomed Hyundais and Kias into our driveways, LG televisions into our living rooms and Samsung phones into our pockets and now they say the time is right for another Korean to become a part of our lives.
Which is where the SsangYong Korando comes in.
The facelifted version of the second-generation Korando is the spearhead of SsangYong’s campaign to rebrand itself in Australia, which began with the arrival of this compact SUV in May.
The new Korando line-up has been simplified, and the car itself is more refined and has a modern, aggressive new exterior design, which is shared cross the SsangYong range.
But the compact SUV market is a fierce battleground in the car world, with solid offerings from almost every car-maker, including top-quality models from fellow South Korean brands Kia and Hyundai.
Australia may be ready for SsangYong, but is SsangYong ready for Australia? We road test the crucial Korando 2WD petrol S to see how it stacks up.
