BEAUTY might only be skin deep, but the 2012 SsangYong Actyon Sports not only looks good but is also clever on the inside thanks to a new, more powerful and more torquey engine. The remainder of the Korean brand’s revitalised dual-cab package is mostly carried over from the previous Actyon Sports, and that raises the question: does the pretty face and added muscle give the newcomer the depth of character to take on the big guns in Australia’s booming ute market?

Actyon Sports
Released: April 2007
Ended: February 2012
Family Tree: Actyon SportsTHE Actyon Sports replaced the Musso Sports ute in 2007 and, as it was derived from the Actyon SUV wagon, came with car-like interior and unique coil-sprung rear suspension.
There was only one engine available from the start, the Xdi 2.0-litre turbo-diesel developing 104kW at 4000rpm and 310Nm at 1800rpm, matched with standard five-speed manual and optional four-speed automatic transmissions. In April 2008, a six-speed auto replaced the four-speed unit.
Like its predecessor, the ladder chassis-based Actyon Sports was available only in dual-cab configuration.
