Subaru adds tS variant to MY24 BRZ range

Flagship tS variant joins pricier Subaru BRZ range, more safety tech for manual models

8 Dec 2023

SUBARU has announced details of its pricier MY24 BRZ range, the line-up now confirmed to offer the sportier tS flagship alongside improved driver assistance technologies for all manual variants.

List pricing for the revised line-up - which arrives in showrooms from January -  is between $700 and $3500 above the superseded range, with the entry point to the model now beginning at $43,790 plus on-road costs.

Chief among the list of updates to the 2024 Subaru BRZ range is the addition of the hotly anticipated tS variant, which brings a bevy of mechanical upgrades aimed at improving the model’s handling and braking performance.

At $48,690 +ORC in manual form, the BRZ tS is the most expensive variant to yet be sold by Subaru Australia, but gains Crystal Black garnishing, 18-inch gunmetal grey alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot 4 rubber, larger-diameter brake rotors clamped by four-piston front and two-piston rear Brembo callipers, STI-tuned dampers, and tS badging.

Inside, the BRZ tS features a red on black leather-accented upholstery, sportier front seats, an STI ignition button, and an STI-branded instrument panel.

Under the bonnet, the BRZ tS is unchanged from the remainder of the line-up, featuring Subaru’s 2.4-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine developing 174kW of power and 250Nm of torque. The BRZ range is available with six-speed manual or automatic transmissions with all variants being rear-wheel drive.

Also new to the MY24 BRZ range is the inclusion of Subaru’s EyeSight safety suite on manual models.

The system adds adaptive cruise control, AEB (autonomous emergency braking) in forward and reverse directions, auto high beam, brake light recognition, lane departure and sway warning, and lead vehicle start alert to the kit list.

Subaru first introduced the stereoscopic camera-based safety technology in the Japanese domestic market in 2008, before debuting the system on Australian delivered Liberty and Outback models from 2012.

The system uses a pair of cameras mounted at the top of the windscreen to help detect, minimise and avoid collisions.

In addition to monitoring other vehicles, it can also detect vulnerable road users including cyclists and pedestrians, and determine their shape, distance, and speed of travel.

The equipment and specification list for other BRZ grades remains unchanged, as does the paint palette which continues to offer Crystal Black, Crystal White, Ice Silver, Ignition Red, Magnetite Grey, Sapphire Blue and WR Blue.

“The BRZ has earned a reputation as a driver’s car thanks to its superb engineering,” said Subaru Australia managing director, Blair Read.

“We are therefore excited to add to the BRZ offering for Australian drivers the best-performing and handling BRZ ever with the tS.

“The addition of EyeSight driver assistance technology into the manual transmission variants enhances the 2024 BRZ range. Not only does this offer more specification for customers, but also reaffirms Subaru’s continuous commitment to prioritising vehicle safety.”
