Subaru prices electric Solterra for Oz

New all-electric rival to Telsa Model Y priced, Subaru Solterra available from $77,990 +ORC

6 Nov 2023

SUBARU Australia has priced its all-electric Solterra SUV for the local market, the rival to the Tesla Model Y available to order this week (November 8) from just under $78K before on-road costs.

The price tag sees Subaru’s first battery electric model arrive from $10,000 more than the Tesla Model Y (from $65,400 +ORC), with two variants available from $77,990 and $83,690 plus on-road costs respectively (see below). The latter is the most expensive Subaru model to ever be sold Down Under.

GoAuto understands stock is limited, with customers to be offered a vehicle on a first come, first served arrangement.

Co-developed with the Toyota bZ4X, the Subaru Solterra arrives with all-wheel drive as standard and an estimated driving range of 414km (WLTP). Both variants are powered by twin 80kW electric motors providing total system output of 160kW/337Nm.

Energy is supplied via a 71.4kWh battery pack which may be charged from 7kW AC or 150kW DC inputs, the latter enabling a fast-charge time of 30 minutes (on a 20 to 80 per cent basis).

The standard equipment list for the Solterra AWD includes 18-inch alloy wheels, a 12.3-inch infotainment array, 7.0-inch instrumentation display, powered driver’s seat, front and rear outboard seat heating, a heated steering wheel, a powered tailgate, LED head- and fog lights, and a digital rear-view mirror.

A lengthy standard safety suite is also standard on the Subaru Solterra AWD.

For high-grade Solterra Touring AWD variants, the standard equipment list sees the addition of 20-inch wheels, a glass roof, faux-leather upholstery, powered seat adjustment with driver’s side memory, wireless phone charging, hands-free parking system, optional two-tone paint work ($1200), and a premium harman/kardon audio system.

Subaru Australia will further offer the Solterra range with what it refers to as Charging Bundles, available for purchase with the vehicle when buying online at Subaru’s public website.

The first includes an EV charger and installation in the form of an Ocular LTE single phase unit offering 7kW of AC charging and a six-metre cable for $2250. The second steps up to a three phase 22kW AC unit and six-metre cable for $2645.

Subaru will offer the Solterra in conjunction with its standard five-year/unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty and five-year/75,000km capped price servicing program with included roadside assistance package.

The high-voltage battery is covered for eight years or 160,000km, whichever comes first. After this warranty period, any required battery replacement will be a “chargeable item”, says Subaru Australia.
