Mitsubishi goes driveaway with Triton again

Price leader: Mitsubishi’s tradie favourite, the dual-cab GLX diesel, gets alloy wheels and a reversing camera in a drive away package worth at least $3620.

Dual-cab Triton on special as Mitsubishi ups the ante in light truck segment

21 Oct 2015

MITSUBISHI has resurrected driveaway pricing specials for dual-cab Tritons in an effort to keep a spring in the sales step of its six-month-old fifth-generation one-tonner in the face of ever-tougher opposition in Australia.

Celebrating 300,000 Triton sales in Australia, the company has announced it will throw in a reversing camera, alloy wheels and on-road costs for no charge on the popular $36,990 GLX dual-cab diesel manual 4x4 Triton.

On the one step higher GLS dual-cab diesel manual 4x4 that usually has a recommended retail price of $40,990, Mitsubishi has cut $1000 from the price, to $39,990, while also covering on-roads that usually cost between $2000 and $2500, depending on the state.

The flagship Triton Exceed dual-cab diesel automatic 4x4 gets a driveaway price hike of $1500, to $49,990, but free on-roads result in a net saving of between $500 and $1000, depending on state charges.

So far this year, Triton sales are up 18.3 per cent over the same period last year, although much of that growth is owed to the previous-generation Triton that was heavily discounted in run-out.

In September, Triton sales were line-ball with the corresponding month last year, at 2020 units, making Triton the second-best-selling light truck in the land, behind Ford’s Ranger (2471).

However, traditional light truck sales leader, Toyota’s HiLux, was in the middle of a major new-model launch last month, and can be expected to be back with a vengeance as stock arrives.

Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited (MMAL) says Australia is one of the leading markets for Triton, thanks to a focus on Australian customers who have played a significant role in shaping the past two generationsCEO Mutsuhiro Oshikiri said Triton had grown and evolved with the Australian market through the past three decades while setting the pace with its combination of passenger comfort, reliability and great value.

“At Mitsubishi Motors, we have gone to great effort to understand the Australian light commercial customer,” he said.

“Over five generations, Mitsubishi has engineered Triton to consistently deliver all practical elements LCV buyers look for in a light truck.

“Today’s Triton is Mitsubishi’s most comfortable and family-friendly light commercial yet, with great manoeuvrability, interior quietness and overall refinement, while still delivering the toughness and reliability Triton has built its reputation on.”

MMAL says the latest Triton was tested extensively in Australia to develop torque delivery and responsiveness and of the 2.4-litre diesel engine, along with high-speed stability on dirt and gravel surfaces and towing performance and stability.
