New models - Mitsubishi - Eclipse Cross - PHEV

2023 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross here in March

Mitsubishi updates Eclipse Cross small SUV range for 2023, hikes price by up to $1500

9 Feb 2023

UPDATED to include petrol versions 10/02/2023

MITSUBISHI has updated its popular Eclipse Cross and Eclipse Cross plug-in hybrid (PHEV) small SUV for 2023, headlined by the addition of 1500W vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability to Aspire and Exceed grades, a new look for the Aspire trim grades and a powered tailgate for Exceed.

Priced from $47,290 plus on-road costs – $300 more in base form and up to $1500 more for the top-spec Exceed – the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross range also gains rear parking sensors for the entry-spec ES, while the Aspire gains styling tweaks, and the Exceed a powered tailgate and light grey leather upholstery option.

Other changes to the line-up include the use of a new air-conditioning refrigerant aimed at lowering the vehicle’s global warming potential and a rear console-mounted USB power supply (with USB-A and USB-C outlets).

Further, Aspire PHEV variants are now defined by a new-look front bumper in silver with a silver insert and centre garnish and grille in black. The rear bumper is similarly styled.

Petrol-powered models – which are still priced from $31,490 + ORC – receive similar upgrades as the PHEV range, bar the addition of an LS Black Edition trim grade with standard blind-spot monitoring, self-dimming rear-view mirror, lane change assist, rear cross-traffic alert and ‘black pack’ styling for $35,490 + ORC.

The LS Black Edition is identified by its black 18-inch alloys, gloss black wing mirror covers, a gloss black skid plate on the front and rear bumpers, and roof rail delete.

Inside, the model is equipped with a mix of black and silver upholstery and trim, a four-way power adjustable driver’s seat, front seat heaters, and micro-suede and synthetic leather combination seating.

Below the LS grade, the ES now arrives with rear parking sensors and 16-inch alloy wheels, as well as a leather trimmed steering wheel, while above it, the XLS and XLS Plus grades appear to have been deleted.

Otherwise, the 2023 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross range is unchanged, all petrol-powered Eclipse Cross variants continuing to be powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo developing 110kW and 250Nm and the PHEV running a  94kW/199Nm 2.4-litre petrol engine with dual electric motor (60kW front and 70kW rear) combination.

The turbo-petrol engine is designed to run on regular 91RON unleaded and coupled to a continuously variable transmission to return 7.3 litres per 100km in front-wheel drive form or and 7.7L/100km when optioned with all-wheel drive. CO2 emissions are rated at 165g/km and 174g/km respectively on the ADR Combined cycle.

For the PHEV, Electric power is supplied via a 13.8kWh battery pack offering a claimed 55km of EV-only range. The V2L system mirrors the tech offered in Mitsubishi’s larger Outlander PHEV, enabling appliances to be run from the vehicle’s high-voltage battery.

Charge times are listed at seven hours for a 240-volt AC (domestic) connection, 3.5 hours on faster wallbox type AC connection, and just 25 minutes (0-80 per cent) when connected to a DC fast charger.

Mitsubishi quotes a combined cycle fuel consumption figure of 1.9 litres per 100km on all grades, with CO2 emissions of 49 grams per kilometre.

Seven paint colours (black, Lightning Blue, Red Diamond, Sterling Silver, Titanium, White and White Diamond) are offered with black fabric, Mi-suede or leather upholstery available depending on variant.

Mitsubishi offers a conditional 10-year/200,000km warranty on all passenger vehicles (provided they are serviced within the dealer network) with 10 years of capped-price servicing and four years’ complimentary roadside assistance.

The first MY23 Eclipse Cross models are expected in local showrooms from March.
