AIMS: Jaguar slashes prices

Big cat, smaller price: Those having just bought a Jaguar are advised to look away now as prices across the entire range have just been seriously sharpened.

Massive Jaguar price cuts for 2013 models to set cat among the pigeons

17 Oct 2012

LUXURY car buyers considering a Holden Caprice might want to take a look at their local Jaguar dealership, as the British luxury brand has just announced that entry to its 2013 model year XF sedan will be lowered by $10,000, to $68,900 plus on-road costs.

Deep price cuts of $29,500 on the XK and XKR coupe and convertible – plus up to $64,500 off the fire-breathing XKR-S – and as much as $55,600 slashed from the XJ limo mean talk at Jaguar’s Sydney show stand will not just be about the all-new F-Type sports car.

Re-priced XKs have already started filtering into Australian showrooms, while deliveries of the XK and XJ are expected to arrive in December.

The $10,000-lower XF entry price is for a base Luxury variant with the new four-cylinder 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine similar to the one in the locally made Ford Falcon EcoBoost.

The XF now undercuts the Audi A6 2.0 TFSI, BMW 520i, Lexus GS250 Luxury and Mercedes-Benz E200 Elegance by at least $8500.

Meanwhile, an XF with the existing 2.2-litre diesel engine can now be had for $69,900 – a sizeable $9000 saving – and value is further boosted by satellite-navigation and eight-speed automatic transmissions becoming standard across the range.

Australians who have just bought a Jaguar should look away now as price cuts further up the range – achieved courtesy of the strong Australian dollar against Sterling – only get bigger.

Jaguar’s new supercharged V6 engine has replaced the naturally-aspirated unit and all but ousted V8s from the XF range, leaving the supercharged flagship XFR as sole big-bore bearer – and $21,400 less expensive at $189,000.

Outgoing V8 Luxury and Portfolio variants have been replaced by the V6 Supercharged equivalents that are a whopping $33,450 cheaper at $95,650 and $112,650 respectively.

All XF variants powered by the carryover 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine are $9600 cheaper, as are the 2.2-litre diesel-powered Luxury and Premium Luxury.

As well as slashing $29,500 off all XK variants, meaning the coupe now costs $189,000, Jaguar has priced both the flagship XKR-S coupe and convertible at $299,000 – meaning savings of $40,500 on the coupe and a massive $64,500 off the convertible.

Like the XF, the XJ range’s naturally aspirated V8 engines have been supplanted by the supercharged V6, with savings of $54,300 on short-wheelbase Premium Luxury and Portfolio variants.

Jaguar’s move to offer long wheelbase as a no-cost option on the XJ has resulted in an even more sizeable $62,300 saving on the stretched Premium Luxury variant, which along with diesel-powered equivalents means there are now four XJ variants priced below the $200,000 mark.

The supercharged V8 Portfolio receives a comparatively modest $15,100 price cut, while the short-wheelbase Supersport is $42,600 cheaper and the stretch version $55,600 less expensive.

All XJ variants also get a rear seat comfort pack as standard, comprising heating, cooling and massage functions, winged head restraints and footrests.
