First look: Skoda Joyster test the waters

Czech mate: The Joyster is said to share VW components.

Skoda is not about to let its Seat and VW cousins steel the Paris limelight

20 Sep 2006

VOLKSWAGEN’S Czech brand Skoda, which for years has been mooted (and repeatedly rejected) as a prospect for Australia, will show its Joyster concept car at Paris.

A long-overdue three-door model for the marque, and a pointer to the next Fabia, the Joyster has compact dimensions and sporting looks – a combination that could see it conflict with models from VW’s Spanish brand Seat should it enter production.

Reports out of Europe suggest the Joyster uses a Volkswagen platform, so buyers can also expect a range of VW-sourced petrol and diesel engines.

According to Skoda the "latest Joyster design study materialises ideas of new forms and functions of a compact car for Skoda’s future customers and outlines the future development of familiar design elements from Skoda Auto".
