Triton teased again ahead of global launch

JUST a few weeks after Mitsubishi teased its next-generation Triton comes new information relating to the model’s ladder frame chassis and cleaner diesel engine the company says will enable the light commercial model to “achieve safe, secure and comfortable driving for any weather or road conditions”.

Slated to make its global debut in Bangkok at the end of this month, the sixth generation Triton will ride on newly designed double wishbone front suspension and a leaf rear to “provide both excellent driving performance and good ride comfort at a high level”.

Further, the newly developed “clean” turbocharged engine has “improved environmental performance by significantly reducing friction loss, while achieving higher output”.

“Having the full model change of all-new Triton for the first time in about nine years, we have newly developed the engine, suspension, interior and exterior, which has resulted in significant improvements in driving performance, comfort and safety,” said Mitsubishi Motors chief product specialist, Yoshiki Masuda.

“In addition, we have interviewed various customers about their usages and needs and have repeatedly conducted development tests to meet the demands of a vehicle that works in a harsh environment.

“We are confident that this model will satisfy all customers around the world, from leisure use to commercial use. Please look forward to the unveiling of the all-new Triton.”

Described as offering a “beefed-up” body with “powerful, horizontal themed” styling, the Triton is characterized by a new frontal treatment the company says resembles the “sharp gaze of a hawk” with combination daytime running lights and three-dimensional headlights “emphasising the impressive presence and robustness of the new model”.

“The all-new Triton has been completely reimagined under the design concept ‘Beast Mode’, or audacious and daring,” explained Mitsubishi Motors general manager of design, Seiji Watanabe.

“While expressing the toughness and powerfulness expected of a pick-up truck, the all-new Triton combines agility with the brand’s robust design to create an imposing look.

“Tough and reliable, the all-new Triton will make customers want to go on any adventure.”

Locally, a Mitsubishi Motors spokesperson said Australia is a key market for the Triton and that further details of the model will be announced in due course.

“Australia is a core market globally for Mitsubishi Motors, and we have been a key stakeholder in the next-generation Triton’s development process.

“The light commercial utility segment is more competitive than ever, and we are confident that next-generation Triton will take Mitsubishi’s enduring presence in this market to the next level.

“We look forward to sharing more details of the development process, and of the new Triton’s Australian range, specification, timings and pricing as we move towards delivering this next-generation utility vehicle to Australian customers.”

The Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited spokesperson said the importer is looking forward to supplying more Australian perspective on the new Triton in the coming weeks.

The global debut of the sixth-generation Triton will take place in Bangkok on July 26.
