It's little surprise that Spencer pursued a career in motoring journalism. A born car and motorcycle tragic coming from a long line of newspaper printers, typesetters and writers... it was meant to be.
Growing up, there was always a busted-up muscle car or classic bike for him to tinker around with. He preferred to refer to them as 'potential masterpieces', but they rarely made it off the driveway under their own steam. “It's about the journey...” he says.
In 2014 he took part in his first competitive racing event, co-piloting a 570-horsepower Mustang to a seventh place category finish at Targa Tasmania. A few years later, he began preparing his 1992 Mazda MX-5 for circuit racing.
He cut his teeth in the automotive industry freelancing as a writer and photographer for titles including Wheels, Unique Cars, Street Machine and CarSales. Then switching to two wheels, working full-time as the Production Editor of Australian Road Rider magazine.
Spencer then went on to work as a journalist at GoAutoMedia, and took the reigns as editor of Design & Tech magazine.
