ROAD TESTING at 12 is not usually on the career map for aspiring motoring writers but Philip Lord began to practice for his future career as a pre-teen (pictured testing a Peugeot 104 GL on private ‘test facilities’, southern France, 1979).

It took a few more years for his motoring writing career to commence formally.

By his early twenties Philip was freelancing for The Canberra Times and national Volkswagen magazine, VW Power.

Soon after he was employed as deputy editor of Overlander, going on to write for Wheels, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Australian, The South China Morning Post, 4X4 Australia and MOTOR.

Now freelancing from his Sydney base, Philip writes for The Australian, Caravan World, The Open Road and of course Go Auto and in his spare time – as much spare time as a father of two toddlers can have – can think of nothing better than getting his hands dirty under the bonnet of his WB DeVille.
