In May 2017 the X-Trail underwent minor cosmetic surgery but significant specification upgrades with range-wide AEB autonomous emergency braking and other driver-assist safety tech, as well as a 130kW/380Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel heart transplant, bringing the desirable automatic and all-wheel drive combination for the first time in the series’ history.

The X-Trail’s visual changes ran to the grille, headlights, LED daytime driving lights, fog lights, bumpers, tail-lights and alloys and roof-mounted antenna, while inside a flat-bottomed steering wheel with revised switchgear, centre console, gear knob, and updated material and trim finishes rounded out the facelift.
