Range Rover and Range Rover Sport doors may not stay shut, 3062 cars recalled

5 Aug 2015

*Updated 6/8/15*LAND ROVER has recalled all 3062 current-generation Range Rover Sports and Range Rovers sold since launch in Australia over a software glitch that could prevent the doors from staying closed, or even cause them to open while the vehicle is in motion.

Remedied by a software update carried out by authorised Land Rover dealers, the recall affects 2237 Range Rover Sports and 825 Range Rovers produced between March 29, 2012 and May 23, 2015.

A Land Rover notice on the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) recalls website says “some customers have reported the inability to secure the door in the closed position, either on the primary or secondary latch”.

“In addition, there have been reports that one of the doors has opened whilst the vehicle was in motion.

“Vehicle doors not securely latched in the closed condition may open. This can increase the risk of a vehicle crash or compromise the safety of the occupants.”

According to Land Rover Australia, there have been no reports or incidents related to the recall in this country, and letters will be sent to owners of affected vehicles next week.

The safety recall affects Range Rover Sports from model year 2014 onwards with VIN codes spanning SALWA2PF1EA000001 to SALWA2KE8FA620148.

Affected Range Rovers are from model year 2013 onwards with VIN codes SALGA2KEXDA000001 to SALGA2DF2FA223058.

In other recall news, Fiat is recalling Freemont people movers as the engine cover on some vehicles may detach and come into contact with the catalytic converter, potentially causing smoke or fire.
