Ford tests brakes

Scrutiny: Ford's BA Falcon, along with the BF Falcon and SX-SY Territory, is being investigated for alleged brake failures.

Falcon and Territory brakes under scrutiny as Ford launches safety investigation

10 Mar 2009

FORD Australia has confirmed it is doing a detailed investigation into alleged brake problems with superseded versions of its volume-selling Falcon sedan and Territory SUV.

“We are aware of incidents that have been reported in the press recently and some incidents that have been reported by our customers,” Ford Australia communications manager Sinead McAlary told GoAuto this week in response to a News Limited newspaper report that followed a number of customer complaints.

“Although the brake system in the BA-BF Falcon and SX-SY Territory models contain dual hydraulic circuits (front and rear), which are isolated in the event of a leak in either circuit, the safety of our customers is our highest priority and we are treating this matter very seriously.

“Ford is currently undertaking a detailed investigation to better understand the issues raised and we are working to conclude those investigations as quickly as possible.” Ford Australia president Marin Burela told News Limited last week that tests to investigate the problem would not be completed for “another three weeks”.
