NISSAN has used the New York motor show to reveal the 370Z Heritage Edition, a bespoke version of its two-seat sportscar which pays homage to the 50 year anniversary of the Z car, that also wears 2018 model year updates.

Although still unclear if the special edition will make it to local showrooms – Nissan Australia says “the Nissan 370Z Heritage Edition is currently under consideration for Australia but not confirmed” – the model year updates are expected to arrive later in 2017 or early next year.

The 2018 Nissan 370Z will sport new look headlights, redesigned rear combination lights, smoke chrome door handles and an Exedy-branded high-performance clutch for manual gearbox-equipped versions.

In addition to these changes, the Heritage Edition – which Nissan says is a tribute to the original Datsun 240Z that first launched the sportscar line in 1969 – will be available on fixed-roof six-speed manual and seven-speed automatic versions of the 370Z and incorporates a number of styling flourishes to differentiate itself from the standard fare.

Two exterior colours are available on the special edition sportscar, with Chicane Yellow wearing black side mirrors, gloss black decals along the bonnet, roof, rear hatch and sides, as well as yellow highlights throughout the interior including on the steering wheel, gear shifter, seat and door trim stitching.

The Magnetic Black version on the other hand, will share the same yellow interior highlights but external decals will be coloured silver instead of black.

Performance remains unchanged from Nissan’s 3.7-litre atmo V6, producing 245kW of power at 7000rpm and 363Nm of torque at 5200rpm, with zero to 100km/h times around the 5.4 second mark.

Nissan North America vice president of product planning Michael Bunce said the Japanese brand is “pleased to be debuting the new Heritage Edition in New York, one of the top Z markets from the very beginning”.

“Over the past five decades there have been a number of special Z trim packages that have added a sense of customisation straight off the showroom floor,” he said.

“The new 2018 370Z Heritage Edition honours that tradition, blending it with the modern design and performance of the 2018 370Z.”

Alongside the new 370Z, the New York motor show also hosted the North American debut of the GT-R Track Edition, already on sale in Australia for $227,000 before on-roads, as well as the US-market Rogue and Rogue Sport SUVs.
