Geneva show: Another Rolls-Royce Wraith teaser

Handle on it: The latest Wraith teaser focuses on the interior of the new Rolls-Royce coupe that will be unveiled at the Geneva motor show on March 5.

OPEN-PORE wood and soft leather usually reserved for the Phantom flagship are the theme of the latest Rolls-Royce teaser for its Wraith, which is expected to be a coupe version of its entry-level Ghost sedan.

Images of the inside of the driver’s door trimmed in Canadel Panelling open-pore wood and a Wraith-branded but simple-looking analogue clock embedded in a piano-black dashboard provide a peek at what will be a contemporary take on Rolls-Royce ultra-luxury interiors.

The BMW-owned British marque says the wood panelling is named after Le Canadel in the south of France where Sir Henry Royce and his design team spent their winters, and the “horseshoe sweep” of the cabin echoes the shape of the cove at this location.

Blood Orange needle tips on the clock are said to pay homage to Rolls-Royce’s aviation heritage while hinting at the Wraith’s dynamic potential.

Most of all, the Wraith’s cabin is described as hinting at the interior of a luxury yacht that, like a Rolls-Royce, is hand-crafted.

“The skill of craftsmen and women at the Home of Rolls-Royce in Goodwood is evident in every delicate stitch and each carefully book-matched veneer,” says the press release.

Overseas reports suggest the Ghost’s twin-turbo V12 engine will be wound up from 396kW to around 447kW for the Wraith, resulting in a 0-100km/h time quicker than the sedan’s 5.0 seconds.

Rolls-Royce has only said that the Wraith’s power output has been upgraded from the traditional “adequate” to “more than ample”.

So far only shadowy side-on and rear exterior images of the Wraith’s upper half have been revealed, but another teaser will be issued before the car is officially unveiled at the Geneva motor show on March 5.
