Peugeot announces all-electric E-3008

PEUGEOT has announced details of its next-generation 3008 medium SUV ahead of its European launch at the beginning of next year.

Due in Australian showrooms towards the end of 2024, the French mid-sizer is expected to be offered with ICE, MHEV, PHEV and BEV powertrain options, the latter – dubbed E-3008 – to rival the likes of the popular Tesla Model Y (from $65,400 plus on-road costs) as a vehicle Peugeot says will offer creative design, driving pleasure, and electric performance to its users.

The Stellantis Group manufacturer says details of ICE and hybrid 3008 models will be published later, this week focusing solely on the E-3008 (BEV). Peugeot Australia managing director, Kate Gills, has confirmed the model will arrive in Australia, saying the importer is working closely with Stellantis to review launch timings and specification for the local market.

“On the back of launching Peugeot’s first all-electric vehicles in the Australian market – the e-Partner Van and the e-2008 SUV – we are pleased to confirm the next-level E-3008 will launch in Australia,” she said.

“Combined with the local introduction of the E-208, e-Expert and 408 PHEV in 2024, there is no doubt that Peugeot’s future is electrifying.”

Riding on the Stellatis Group’s new STLA Medium underpinnings, the E-3008 will offer three electric drivetrain options, the choice of front- or all-wheel drive, and with two battery packs to allow up to 700km driving range (WLTP).

While it is not yet known which options will be available locally, driveline choices for the Peugeot E-3008 include a standard range 157kW/343Nm front driven single motor unit with a 400V/73kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt battery and 525km range (WLTP) and an all-wheel drive version of the standard range model with additional 83kW/166Nm electric motor on the rear axle, 240kW total system power, identical battery pack and 525km range claim.

At the top of the stack is a long range front-wheel driven flagship with 170kW electric motor and 98kWh battery delivering a claimed 700km range (WLTP).

All three E-3008 models offer 22kW AC and 160kW DC charging capabilities.

Against the tape, the Peugeot E-3008 measures 4540mm in length, 1890mm in width, and 1640mm in height making it 100mm longer, 50mm wider and 20mm taller than the outgoing model. The mid-sized SUV rides on a 2730mm wheelbase, or 55mm longer than the current offering.

Cargo space is listed at 520 litres.

Safety technologies include AEB with cyclist and pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, lane following and lane keeping assist, traffic sign recognition, and 360-degree camera technology.

Features include Matrix LED headlights, LED taillights, a choice of 19- and 20-inch alloys, keyless entry and ignition, Peugeot’s i-Cockpit instrumentation array with 10.0- and 21.0-inch display screen options, a heated steering wheel, touch-sensitive steering wheel controls, cloth or synthetic leather upholstery options, and heated/ventilated and massaging front seats.

Infotainment highlights include native satellite navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, voice control and a 10-speaker Focal premium audio system.

Pricing and specifications for Australian-bound Peugeot E-3008 variants will be announced closer to the model’s local launch.
