All-electric Jeep Wagoneer S teased

Jeep readies its Wagoneer S EV for launch, due for sale in US market from Q3 this year

22 Jan 2024

JEEP has this week teased its all-electric Wagoneer S ahead of the model’s official on-sale date in the third quarter of this year.

The brand’s first global battery electric vehicle (BEV) will further expand the Jeep SUV range and include as standard 4xe four-wheel drive capability, some 600 horsepower (447kW) of total output, and a quoted 0-60mph (0-96km/h) time of just 3.5 seconds.

Jeep says the Wagoneer S is designed to be as aerodynamically efficient as possible, its “sleek exterior designed marked by a reimagined LED-lit class-exclusive seven-slot Jeep brand grille” but has offered little else in the way of detail.

The frontal styling of the Wagoneer S appears to adhere closely to that of the concept model shown in 2022. The Wagoneer was shown at the same time as the Recon SUV, an all-electric model tipped to join four planned by the American brand in the very near future.

Jeep already sells the Avenger EV in selected markets.

Parent company Stellantis has been relatively slow in making the transition to electric vehicles, though times are beginning to change. Dodge recently teased its upcoming electric Charger, while the full-size Ram 1500 REV (pick-up) and ProMaster EV (van) will go on sale in the United States soon.

Locally, Stellantis has recently released its pint-sized Fiat 500e, and is set to offer more electrified models as part of its Dare Forward 2030 long-term strategic plan.

Stellantis says it will ensure 100 per cent of its passenger vehicle sales in Europe will be battery electric by the end of the decade, with 50 per cent of its passenger vehicle and light-duty commercial vehicles to be BEV in the United States by 2030.

Stellantis aims to achieve a carbon net zero objective by 2038, as it pushes to electrify its stable of brands. Some 75 new battery electric Stellantis models are expected to appear across its global range within the next six years.

“Today’s news from Jeep brand is yet another example of how our American brands are transforming themselves to support our aggressive decarbonisation plans,” said Stellantis CEO, Carlos Tavares previously.

“Across our portfolio of 14 beloved brands we are offering exhilarating electrified products as we push to launch an additional 28 all-new battery electric vehicles through 2024.

“We’re confident that our upcoming launches will thrill our customers and keep them loving the great American brands they’ve grown up with.”

Jeep says four new electric models will be available in North America and Europe from 2025, understood to include the Wagoneer S, Avenger and Recon BEVs.

Powertrains for each are likely to be shared with other models from beneath the Stellantis umbrella.

The electric models will build on the existing success of Jeep’s Wrangler 4xe and recently introduced Grand Cherokee 4xe PHEV models, which have seen strong sales in the US.
