Jeep celebrates 5 million Wrangler sales

Milestone coincides with release of MY24 range, Australian arrival expected late 2023

1 Sep 2023

US BRAND Jeep has announced the sale of its five millionth Wrangler model this week, the Rubicon 4xe 20th Anniversary Edition going to an American customer in the state of New Jersey.

The owner of the milestone model received $5000 of Jeep Performance Parts by Mopar and a lifetime of Jeep Wave customer benefits.

Jeep says the announcement fell on the same day the brand introduced its MY24 Wrangler model range which will be sold in markets around the world, including Australia.

The Wrangler is one of the off-road world’s most recognisable vehicles and has been since its unveiling at the 1986 Chicago Auto Show, replacing the long-serving CJ-series and continuing a legacy established by the original 1941 Willys MB.

Jeep’s first Wrangler (YJ-series) entered production 37 years ago at the American Motors Corporation factory and went on to sell 630,000 units between 1987 and 1995. Early Wranglers were offered as a two-door only with a choice of 2.5-litre four-cylinder or 4.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engines.

The ‘YJ’ was followed by the TJ-series in 1996, the JK-series in 2006 and the JL-series in 2017, each generation bringing what Jeep says is “an unmatched combination of off-road capability and authentic Jeep design”.

“Each subsequent iteration of Wrangler has been designed to be even more refined and comfortable for daily use, while providing customers with the world’s most off-road capable and most iconic SUV,” said Jeep in a statement.

The MY24 Jeep Wrangler promises more capability, technology, and refinement than before. Australian updates are expected to be announced closer to the arrival of the facelift, which GoAuto understands will arrive locally later in 2023.

The 2024 Jeep Wrangler arrives in North American dealerships this quarter.

“With five million Wranglers sold, the Jeep brand continues to grow, fuelled by the unwavering passion of the Jeep global community,” said Jeep North America senior vice president, Jim Morrison.

“With legendary four-wheel drive capability, open-air-freedom and a timeless design, the Wrangler embodies the spirit and the soul of the Jeep brand.

“Over 80 per cent of the five million Wranglers sold since 1986 are still on the road, having fun out there and showcasing the amazing staying power of the vehicle.

“Our new 2024 Wrangler raises the bar once again as the most capable Wrangler yet, with more technology, safety features and refinement,” he added.
