Hyundai S CoupeS Coupe1 Jul 1990 Hyundai released a sporty coupe version of its X2 series Excel in mid-’90, instantly offering the cheapest car in its segment. Power came courtesy of a 62kW 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine that was based on an old Mitsubishi design. Despite the racy styling, the Hyundai was neither sporty nor particularly durable. In September ’91 the well-equipped single model S Coupe was divided into the S LS and S GLS – the latter featuring power mirrors and windows, and better audio. In late ’92 a new in-house designed 68kW 1.5L multi-valve engine, a redesigned nose, revised side and rear styling, and detailed trim changes resulted in the Series II. It was also available with an 84kW turbo version, called S Coupe Turbo, until mid-’95. Read more18th of August 1990 Hyundai 1990 S Coupe range |
