G200 Charade

1 Jun 1993

It seemed that the G100 series proved too radical for conservative Japan, so the fourth generation Charade espoused a more mature appearance, improved engine performances, a larger, stronger body (now 80 per cent more rigid), higher refinement levels and a four-speed auto option.

But dull styling and currency-driven price hikes saw local interest wane.

Engine outputs were now 38kW (G200 1.0L three-cylinder TE three-door, Stratos and CS five-door) and 62kW (G202 1.3L four-cylinder CS and CX 5-door, TS and ST three-door).

The Charade SI and DI sedans arrived in August ’94, sporting a new 66kW G203 1.5L 16-valve four-cylinder engine and an optional driver’s airbag.
