DS4 Mk I

Citroen released its DS4 crossover hatch in March 2012 to compete with a diverse range of small cars including the Nissan Dualis, Volkswagen Golf and even the Mini Countryman.

The DS4 was a high-riding version of the popular C4 hatch but as with other DS models, it was given a more refined look and feel to differentiate it from its less expensive stable mate.

The French car-maker offered a choice of two petrol engines for its stylish crossover including a 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine producing 115kW of power which was mated to a six-speed EGS transmission.

The top-of-the-range DS4 DSport was offered with a 147kW turbo-petrol four cylinder engine that returns 6.4l/100km over a combined cycle. Citroen’s ‘micro-hybrid’ e-HDI turbo-diesel was offered in May 2012.

All engines available in the rage are Euro 5 emissions-compliant.

The well-appointed DS4 came with luxury touches such as chrome detailing on the air vents and gear lever, aluminum drilled pedals, while embossed door handles and ambient lighting were also available.

Citroen even offered the option of a front seat massage function to help a weary driver unwind.

The DS4 featured a number of clever storage compartments including drawers under the front seats and door pockets that could accommodate 1.5-litre bottles. On some models, a centre console hid a cooled and illuminated storage area that held up to four 500ml bottles as well as housing a USB port and 12-volt power socket.

When it was released, the DS4 received a maximum five-star ANCAP safety rating.
