Tesla Roadster to hit 100 km/h in under one second

$400K three-motor hyper EV to offer top speed of +400km/h when it launches next year

8 Mar 2024

TESLA is set to launch its long-awaited Roadster in 2025 the all-electric performance coupe claimed by CEO Elon Musk to offer “bombastic” performance figures, including a sub-1.0 second 0-60mph (0-97km/h) time.

Posting on X (formally Twitter), a social media service owned by Mr Musk, he said the car’s brief had been “radically increased”, while promising that “there will never be another car like this”.

The vehicle is said to use not only electric power in cracking the one-second standard, but an optional Rocket Thruster package developed in conjunction with another Musk-owned company, SpaceX.

Mr Musk’s latest estimates on when the model will arrive in market say 2025, though he previously stated that the coupe/cabriolet would be in showrooms in 2020, 2022, 2023, and 2024 – giving the Roadster’s on-sale date something of a Cybertruck ring...

Delays of the Roadster have been previously attributed to supply chain issues and the extended duration of development for both the model’s high-voltage battery pack and three-motor drive unit.

To date, there has been no concrete indication of the model’s forecast price. Mr Musk originally said the model would retail for $US250,000 ($A380,000), but obviously there has been much time passed since that statement was made at the initial reveal in 2017.

Tesla also claimed a 250mph (402km/h) top speed for the four-seater coupe/cabriolet, the all-wheel drive model said to offer a driving range of 620 miles (998km).
