McKellar takes on global role with FIA

Au revoir: Andrew McKellar starts his new role as secretary general for Automobile Mobility and Tourism with the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) early next year.

AAA CEO Andrew McKellar heads to Paris for key international role with FIA

3 Nov 2014

AUSTRALIAN Automobile Association (AAA) chief executive Andrew McKellar has resigned his position to take up a new global role with the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) in Paris.

Mr McKellar will become secretary general for Automobile Mobility and Tourism for the FIA, which is the governing body for motorsport as well as the federation of motoring and touring organisations around the globe.

Commencing his new role in early 2015, Mr McKellar will finish his duties with the AAA late this year.

The high-profile automotive industry executive has been at the AAA since May 2011, having replaced Lauchlan McIntosh who became chairman of the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP), where he remains today.

Mr McKellar was previously the chief executive of the automotive industry’s peak body, the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI), a role he had held since May 2007.

AAA president Ross Herron praised Mr McKellar’s achievements in his time at the association and said he would continue to be an advocate for automotive clubs represented by the FIA.

“He is well placed to co-ordinate and support the global advocacy activities of FIA member clubs on issues such as road safety, enhanced mobility and consumer rights,” Mr Herron said.

“Andrew has been an outstanding chief executive and an extremely strong and effective advocate for motorists during his three years at the AAA.

“Andrew will take up his new role in early 2015 and we wish him and his family all the best for the future.”

Mr Herron said that the AAA board had commenced the recruitment process for a new chief executive.

The AAA is the national organisation covering state automobile clubs including the NRMA, RACV, RACQ, RACSA, RACWA, RACT and RACNT.
