Potential fire hazard with Ford Falcon EcoLPi models prompts recall of 3250 vehicles

18 Mar 2014

FORD Australia is recalling 3250 examples of its FG Series II Falcon sedan and utility fitted with the LPG-fuelled EcoLPi six-cylinder engine, owing to a potential gas leak that could in turn result in a potential fire hazard.

A recall notice issued overnight by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) said there is a possibility that an o-ring seal located between the fuel delivery module and the wiring connector insert of the LPG tank may be missing.

The campaign is targeting sedans built from August 4, 2011, through to July 18, 2012, and the utility built from September 15, 2011, through to July 18, 2012.

The ACCC said Ford will write to owners of the affected vehicles, and that until the recall service is completed, drivers are advised to avoid parking the vehicle in a confined space.

The Falcon EcoLPi sedan was also involved in a recall last year, although this was due to a batch of cars being fitted with the wrong-sized tyres on the production line.
